I set up an N64Forever.com "Tournament" in the online menu of Mario Kart 8. It runs every night at 10:30 pm U.S Eastern Daylight Savings Time (New York City time). Code: 8073-6384-4485 So if you are karting at that time, check it out; you might be able to race against fellow members here for fun and MK8 excitement. UPDATE: We'll try to schedule races for Friday nights at 10:30 pm NYC time. |

By the way, I forgot to ask: have you guys determined if there is any difference connecting the WiiU by ethernet even if the router is 10Cm away from the console? |

My router is about 12 feet away from my Wii U and there is no lag from my controller to the screen. |

I may be able to join Saturday night although I might be fully immersed in SSBWiiU. It's really hard to say at this point. |

Okay, we'll shoot for Saturday night. BTW, I raced online last night and came away thinking how unexpectedly crazy fun Rainbow Road (SNES) is to race online. |

I'm really loving the new tracks! Why don't we make Saturday night a Mario Kart Race of Champions by all using the same vehicle and character? Maybe one of the new karts and each of us with a different colored Yoshi or Shy Guy? |

I mostly want to see if the tweaks to lighter characters like Yoshi and Shy Guy actually make a difference when playing on-line. It gets lame when everybody uses a heavy.

I've gotten so used to the way a heavy handles with rollers that it is a serious adjustment for me to use a combo that steers better (and I miss the white-knuckle drifts). Seen plenty of online heroes with other lighter combos so I do not think heavy is the advantage it once was. I simply do not enjoy using the inside drift bikes, which is too bad for me bc they can dominate if used properly. |

I've been doing some WW on-line races with lighter characters lately and doing pretty well. Sorta reminds me of the way that lighter characters had a fighting chance in Mario Kart Wii. If I join you guys Saturday night I'll probably be using Yoshi or Shy Guy. Haven't decided which kart I'll be driving although I'm sure I'll use the new Hylian Kite because it just looks so darn cool.

Thanks to Boomdiers for racing with me and once again demonstrating how it is done!! We raced all of the new tracks, and let's just say his skills translate very well to DLC #1. Once again, I was surprised at how fun SNES Rainbow Road is to race live, and we had an awesome 3 car finish there! |

Sorry I didn't make it last night but I was fried from having played so much SSBWiiU. Me and the Mrs. also had a busy day yesterday as we went out and caught the new Hunger Games movie and made an ill-advised visit to Sam's Club, both of which added to my fatigue later in the evening. I haven't completely given up on Mario Kart 8 so let me know the next time there's an on-line get-together planned. I'd really like to race the DLC tracks with you guys! |

ah, big box fatigue, know it well, lol! Unless there is an objection then, I'll leave the track settings (DLC1 tracks only) as they are for one more racing night. Snes Rainbow Road and Mute City are seriously fun, and Hyrule is great but I'm dreadful at the final section. |

Considering the lag we experience with Aussie players in Mario Kart 8, I'm thinking SSBWiiU tourneys aren't going to be practical. Any chance we can go back to 10:30pm for our MK8 races tonight? |

Grizz and I duked it out, but SSB has honed his reflexes to that of a Jedi. He dominated tonight notwithstanding the finger joint pain and eye fatigue he must be suffering ATM from SSB. But I certainly appreciate his taking a break to show off those MK8 skillz of his on the new courses. Well done, Grizz! |

You're too kind, bluedog. I think a big factor was that luck simply was not on your side last night. For example, you were flat-out robbed of your victory on our last race on Yoshi Circuit. Bluedog had let me know that Yoshi Circuit was going to be his last race for the evening. It made sense as we'd gone through all the new tracks of DLC#1 and continuing was becoming redundant without more human racers. I took an early lead in the first lap but knew it was tenuous given Andy's innate driving skill and the randomness of Mario Kart 8's item distribution. It was completely likely that any of the racers behind me would get three red shells while I merely got coins thus severely limiting my chance of staying competitive. With that in mind, you can imagine my surprise when bluedog wrestled away first place not with a cheap red shell, but by taking the short cut through the water fall. Even with all the sharp twists and turns of Yoshi Circuit he maintained control and defended his well-earned lead from that point forward. That is until the game mercilessly decided to give one of the A.I. controlled racers the blue shell of doom immediately after I slowed bluedog with a volley of projectiles from the fiendish Fire Flower. I can only imagine the stream of obscenities yelled at the screen when that villainous event happened so late in the race. Such is the nature of Mario Kart 8's on-line multiplayer and why the game has to be enjoyed only in a lighthearted manner.
