Wow, nice observation.

I will point that out to everyone I play the game with from now on. :)

Never really watched much of the show, just saw other people watching it mostly...

Hi all. So I was playing Hydro Thunder last night and raced around Lost Island a few times. As I was playing, I thought it was so cool how Midway incorporated elements of ABC's Lost (great show, hope it made it to your region of the world) that race. The crashed airplane, the beach campsite, the mid race radar knockout, and what appeared to be the smoke monster on the Lost Island logo on the choose race screen.
I see the crashed plane, a big one too.
Couldnt see the beach camp site, but there are many beaches, so maybe I just didnt see it.
And I see the "smoke monster" on the track select.

No one tell me what happens, one day I might want to watch the show. :o
Spoilers are horrible, horrible things.

The "Hard" tracks in Hydro Thunder are so cool!

Straight from the instruction book:

Located somewhere in the South
Pacific, the Lost Island track offers a
fast-paced trek through a volcanic
island. Lush greenery, native villages,
ancient ruins and numerous secrets
await you!

And, yes!
Finally worked out how to do the jump again.
Let go of A, Brake, then Boost.
I was missing the first step I think.

When your boat dips down, thats when you boost.
Can be very handy!

It said something about this video not being watchable in this region.

Sounds legit though.
And I liked the Lost theory as you know.

CRACKPOT THEORY #3: BANJO KAZOOIE'S COVER ART "COVERED" THE COVER ART OF AN ATARI 2600 GAME
By Guest Crackpot Theorist, D.J. Cat

I read about this in N64 Magazine (A UK mag) over 10 years ago.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Castles_%28video_game%29

Tell me Banjo-Kazooie and that game dont have a LOT of similarities...

"Berthilda the witch"

Pretty similar to Gruntilda.

I also remember another letter in N64 magazine about a kids book that had very similar looking characters to Jet Focre Gemini.
I have these magazines still, but weather to keep them...ugh I have too much stuff.

I have indeed mentioned the Lost theory to everyone who I play Hyrdo Thunder with.

I'm sure I see the camp site on the beach at some point.
Still haven't seen the show...
Maybe one day, when tine becomes largely available.
Not anytime soon!

Also, fantastic thread, now to go away and come up withbaone more crazy ideas 😀

Sorry to double post, but I have a new theory.
It's not much but:

The levels in HSV Adventure Racing are in order of time of day and maybe could be considered to be raced all in one day.
The first 3 levels are day levels, so the time of day exactly may be hard to pinpoint, but the final 3 levels are raced at sunset, then twighlight then night.
I want to believe!

Can other people contribute with their own crackpot theories?

It's pretty evident that the Motion Sensor Bomb in Smash Bros. 64 and Melee came from Goldeneye. It's also possible Nintendo took the Beam Sword from the Star Wars games (a big thing on the N64 at the time), and the Home Run Bat from their in-house developed Ken Griffey Jr. game.
The motion sensor bomb was indeed inspired by Goldeneye, as the Cloaking Device and perhaps the same weapon in Melee were referred to as bring developed by dataDyne in the Trophy Description.

See how I did that by memory?
Who does that!

Makes me imagine all the plans they might have had before the Rare sale, I'm sure they had heaps and we're sad to let Rare go if they are making Perfect Dark references in Smash Melee.

It takes some kind of weird hyper/tired state to make posts like this.
Yep.

I love this topic and this latest crackpot theory!

And here is the link to the music video for any of the few who don't know the song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSvFpBOe8eY&feature=youtu.be

This was so popular in 2001...surely 10 times better than whatever is popular these days, although that's another story.

I have never played the game but I will be pointing this one out to anyone who has!

I need to think of more theories, I know I have them and they are solid, just have to remember them.

I still point out the Hydro Thunder/Lost one every chance I get!

This topic from 7 years ago was already legendary, but to retro fit it with pictures to really help emphasize the point...

So good!
