I'll try to restrain my enthusiasm until European members have access to SSBWiiU.

It's simply amazing how easy it is to sink countless hours in to this game.

I haven't even touched Mario Kart 8 since I got SSB4 which is a real shame because I like the new tracks in DLC#1.

Many people say they don't understand the appeal of the Super Smash Bros. franchise and how the games are nothing more than "button mashers". This is one of my recent replies from another forum that I frequent.

Super Smash Bros. can be as shallow or as deep as you want it to be. It just depends who you're playing against and how seriously they take it.

I own both Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. Wii U and I find the latter to be infinitely more appealing than the former. Both are good but SSBWiiU is much more rewarding to people who take the time to master its nuisances and metagame.

I suggest playing some For Glory 1-on-1 matches to get a first hand glimpse of how Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is anything but a button masher. In fact, I think Soul Calibur V is much more of a casual game than SSBWiiU is.

Button masher?? Of all fighting games I've played SSB as the least button mashing potential. Unlike any other common fighter, in SSB is almost impossible to land a single solid hit against a good player by button mashing, let alone win...

And that's the beauty of SSB, it can be as shallow or deep as you want because it lacks complicated moves and dedicated button sequences. All characters have the save move/button scheme so it's easy to play but hard to master!
Now I'm bummed...

The store I got my pre-order from only had listed the game and the adapter as separated items. I got 10€ off with the pre-order, so 50€ instead of 60€. I want the adapter(20€) so 50+20= 70€.
Today, one day from release they list the game+adapter bundle for 65€, so even with my 10€ discount I'm still going to pay more than anyone who goes there tomorrow and gets the bundle!! What a low move... I feel hustled.

I'll try to complain but I'm not sure I'll have any luck. With a bit of "luck" the adapter won't be there tomorrow and I'm stuck with the game alone. In case that happens: in my favor, and this is gold, if I ditch my pre-order coupon with 5€ I gave upfront, I can still get the bundle and spend the same 70€ anyway. What a mess lol

I've unlocked all the characters in SSBWiiU so now I've started experimenting with a Mii Fighter. I chose to go with a Mii Brawler to approximate the fighting style of Luigi who I used a lot in Project M. Just another layer in this game that's as deep as The Land of the Rising Sun from which it came. :)

Those of you who may be thinking that Sm4sh is just for hardcore fighting game fans please get that notion out of your head. This weekend Mrs. Grizzmeister and I did some For Fun team smash rounds against random opponents and laughed like carefree kindergarteners. The arenas in For Fun matches are lighthearted and whimsical with just enough stage hazards to give either team a chance of being victorious regardless of total skill level. Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is just flat-out fun because it scales so well between the two extremes of the video gaming spectrum!

There has been some fuss about this in the past few days.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/12/super_smash_bros_for_wii_u_facing_potential_error_code_nightmare

Some people have been claiming that everybody should clase the app (game), return to the WiiU menu and then turn off the console. I never did this before. I always turn the console off right away.

Let's hope that Nintendo releases a patch ASAP to address this issue.

if the game in question is still busy writing to a save file in memory or on disk, the file could become corrupted.
And corrupted save files can seriously mess up your console.

So the fix is probably going to be not letting the Wii U shut down completely until it's finished writing to memory?

MKII I always wait for games to save or console to update, I meant I just never close the game first before turning console off. Many years ago the old PC was updating and I stepped on the plug, turning it off... I learned the lesson back then.

Throwing caution to the wind, I've been playing the snot out of SSBWiiU on-line. Today I logged my 300th match. :-8

I keep playing with Canadians and North Americans all the time with little or no lag at all. I'm not sure how it works but I guess it depends a lot on whether any person of the room has a really poor connection, even if that person is close to your location.

Here's one of the most detailed and honest reviews I've read so far for Super Smash Bros. Wii U. While the game is indeed extremely fun, it's not perfect.

Why Defense is Overpowered in Smash 4

I'll be sharing my thoughts on Sm4sh's on-line scene soon, but I'm little more than an enthusiastic casual player so much of the game's deeper strategies are lost on me.

Hey guys I stumbled across these links today regarding the status and discontinuation of the gamecube adapter. They seem to basically be saying that Nintendo DOES have plans to supply more of them, at least in the UK.
Honestly with all of the confusion and other statements that they have released recently I dont know what to believe anymore!

It'd be foolish of Nintendo to discontinue the GameCube Controller Adapter given how popular it is and the possibility that it may interact with other games in the future.

If Nintendo patched N64 era Virtual Console games to support the peripheral on the Wii U I'd probably finally transfer over all my VC games from my original Wii.

BTW, I've been doing a lot of For Glory 1-on-1 matches and the competition is really getting fierce. It's much more competitive than the on-line scene for any of the Street Fighter IV iterations I played on-line. Thankfully, For Fun is much less serious although no less thrilling. It just blows me away how much SSBWiiU has to offer gamers of every skill level.

I'm now officially obsessed with Sm4sh. :-8

It's not because I'm so good at it either but quite the contrary. I regularly get my arse handed to me when I play on-line in the For Glory lobbies. It all just adds to the challenge that has me constantly thinking of attacks and counter-attacks for Wario even when I'm not playing.

As of late, I've been doing much better with my second - Donkey Kong - and I suspect that's because his power makes up for the unavoidable lag that's experienced when playing on-line.

Today I'm going to call my close friend Steven and ask him to visit so we can play together as a team on-line. Usually we play against each other but SSBWiiU allows two players to go on-line on 1 Wii U so we're going to see how that pans out for us. Wish us luck and give this post a like if you want me to detail how it goes. ;)

I haven't played anywhere near as much as I should have of this game because of how much I love the series >_<
I think when the 3DS version came out I played it so much that it feels like I'm just doing everything all over again (which is why I've spent 90% of my time in the Wii U version playing the Events).

Anyway my Nintendo ID is in my signature if anyone feels like adding me or messaging me if they see I'm on. I'm always up for some fun matches :)

Today SSBWiiU gave me a message saying that I've played my 500th match. Yeah, I guess you can say I'm addicted.

Oh, talked to my friend Steven today and he's been playing Sm4sh too. He's coming over next weekend so we can play against each other and also against others on-line. :yeah:

So...after seeing the list you showed me on the other topic I've got to ask: what's your thing for lower tier characters? :P :P

I main Wario because I absolutely love the way he looks in his classic yellow costume, his wicked and oh-so infuriating taunt and his ridiculous set of moves like the Wario Waft. He works well for me in Mario Kart 8 too do to his heft and the fact that MK8 offers benefits to heavy characters. Donkey Kong while not the best choice for 1-on-1 For Glory matches is ideally suited to free-for-all Smash mode on-line because of his devastating power and the fact that his moves tend to linger.

Screw tiers! I don't have such low self esteem that I gotta main the top tier characters to feel like I'm having fun with Sm4sh.

So Steven came over last night and we did about 20 on-line matches of Team Smash (For Fun) and as expected we totally dominated. He mostly played as King Dedede and I stuck with my favorite character Wario. Our matches were so fun and intense that Steven was literally twitching when we stopped and had to take a long deep breath to compose himself.

It'd be irresistible if it came with a limited edition Amiibo. ;)

Started leveling up my Donkey Kong Amiibo and got him to 8 in just two matches. :o I'm sure this pace won't keep up or I'll have him at 50 by Sunday night. :P

To the people who got SSBWiiU for Christmas and are either new to the franchise or haven't played a Smash game in a while; all I can say is - be patient. Sm4sh is easy to get in to but difficult to master. I know that sounds cliche but it's absolutely true and it becomes apparent if one ventures on-line too soon.

I suggest spending a lot of time in single player or maybe doing some local multiplayer with family members or friends to get your feet wet first. This will allow you to slowly absorb all the nuance and strategy that SSBWiiU has to offer before going on-line and getting humiliated.

To give you an idea of how deep modern Smash games are; I've been playing the first three console iterations 64, Melee and Brawl steadily since 2008 and I'm still little more than a novice.

I own Melee but only played it casually. Never got any good at it, but it's my only point of reference.

SSBWiiU has a lot more in common with Melee than I expected. Mrs. Kart and I went on line and were getting whooped fairly consistently. Until we ran across another team that must have just started playing too, because we won a few in a row rather handily.

I've been jumping around trying out different characters as we work on unlocking everybody. I usually come back to Peach. But I played a bit with King Dedede and man that big ol' hammer is fun!
