I'm kind of picky when buying used consoles and controllers. And not so much in terms of looks but things that might affect functionality or durability. I’m very used to buying N64 so I know what to ask the sellers. I also know about specific things to ask about when I buy some Sega controllers. But I know nothing about Gamecube controllers. Are they all-around solid/flawless and should basically only ask if all buttons are working, or should I be alert for anything in particular? |

The only issue that comes to mind with respect to GameCube controllers is the rubber nub on the top of the grey left stick. After extended use it can fall off and as far as I know there isn't a replacement available that adequately mimics the original. Other than that, GC controllers are VERY durable. Much more so than N64 pads. The GameCube controller is about to again come in to the limelight with the upcoming Smash Bros. edition(seen below). So now may be a good time to start collecting all the various incarnations.

Thanks Grizz for the valuable information! Actually I was planing on getting the Game+Adapter+Controller pack but since I found out Nintendo is only planing on releasing the Game+Adapter pack over here, I'm now considering buying now a spare controller, to make sure I have one to play, and then maybe wait for a price drop on the SSB version. |

I have worn out the A button trying to complete P.N.O3. It was loose and the sensitivity was gone... To fix it, one would have to replace the rubber contacts inside. i'd say- check the A button as well. Edited by No64DD, Nov 10 2014, 08:23 AM.

The new Hori gamecube controllers are pretty tempting at $25 shipped from Amazon. I also saw the new Mario controller from PDP for $30 at gamestop . . . looked gorgeous, but I'm not sure I'd invest in any controller not Nintendo, Hori (or ASCII) made. |

No64DD thanks for another good point ![]() Since Amazon ceased the free shipping for Europe outside of the UK I got fed up with them Plus £ still kills € so... I'll probably stick to a used controller seeking a new home!

Check the Z button as well. That's the button that gets damaged most of the times when the controller is dropped. Other than that, and the previous mentioned A-button, they are solid as dar as I know. |

On the issue of a mushy A button, I've repaired a few torn NES and N64 rubber pads by applying crazy glue with a toothpick to the area of tear. Very simple and effective. |

very intersting BDR The same should be said for SNES buttons. Out of all 4 systems- they are the most prone to wear. But to open a GC controller, you will need a Tri-Wing screwdriver. |

True, you need a tri-wing, and I'm not sure how messy/easy it is to open and close a GC controller. |

Holy cow... the gamecube had really a low impact locally. There are ZERO controllers selling here... I might as well get the Mario one new from Amazon...

That or eBay of course. However I'd be careful. make sure you see up close pics. I ordered a spice orange GC controller from someone. Looked great in the pics, and was asking good money for the color. I figured it would be a great purchase. When I got it I wasn't so lucky. It looked as it did in the picture, however it was worn in places unseen by the pictures. Clever seller..... Haha. I just re-sold it and found one with clearer/closer pictures and snagged a winner! Also, they don't sell much locally here either, however I do find them. Try thrift shops and online classifieds. |

Thanks a lot MKII. In the meantime I got contacted by a seller nearby that has two and is I'd rather trade with you, no doubt about it, but since I'm trying to keep everything as cheap as possible (for the not so good moment...), the shipping costs between PT/ND will probably be more than what I'm paying for this controller. But let me just see what happens until the end of the week. He may change his mind. |

With the imminent release of Super Smash Bros. Wii U, I'm so glad I decided to hold on to all my Wavebirds.![]() ![]() Some of these were in pretty bad shape when I first got them but I cleaned 'em up and even swapped out parts I got from wired controllers. |

i recently had to pass over a Wavebird because it didn't have the essential receiver... such a shame. It's the best controller ever in my not so humble opinion. I've got two in my collection and sold another to fellow forummer Vinyl for way too little money ![]() |

Before I got one I thought the wavebird would be uncomfortable. Must says its one of the best controllers to hold. |

@buddy: wow! I love those new Horis and I'm upset with myself for not grabbing a bunch at $25/pop when they will sell for a bunch more a few years out. |

(MKII) I got the deal after all. The SSB edition can wait now. I only needed the one controller but I didn't resist getting the extra stuff as it was all very cheap. The extra GC controller misses the left stick rubber but that one was practically free so ![]() What I got. |

Interesting. I recall reading a while ago that Japanese people react to the color white like we Westerners react to black. For example; we wear black to funerals were as they wear white. |

You really can't have too many GameCube controllers since SSBWiiU supports up to eight players. The hard part is getting your hands on two of the rare GC Controller Adapters for Wii U. BTW, I'm hearing talk that there's a patch out now that makes the GC Controller Adapter compatible with PC's which is huge given how popular the Dolphin emulator is. This is bound to make the GC Controller Adapters even more sought after. |

Those are sweet controllers. I still can't believe you can walk in and buy brand new ones in 2014/2015. It's like some sort of time warp paradox! |

I've been using the GameCube controller extensively since 2008 to play Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl so to me it seems completely natural for Nintendo to start selling them again. |
