Since the new Smash Bros game has the new online tournaments, I was thinking that N64 Forever could do a weekly tournament. Please express your opinion if we should do this or not.

It does? I didn't think that the update for online tournament mode had been announced yet.

However, not being absolutely needed, I'm 100% on board with the idea.

I love on-line tournaments for almost any game but SSBWiiU is so affected by lag the it may not be practical. This especially true since we have members scattered across the entire globe.

I didn't know Sm4sh was that laggy for people, for me it doesn't lag at all.

Grizz, I've noticed you've been complaining about lag a lot on SSB, since launch. I think you should have your connection checked because it seems you're the only one so badly affected by it. I guess everyone has a laggy match every now and then but it's actually very rare for me. Every time I feel lag I check the profile and it's almost always very near from me instead of far away, meaning that probably their connection is bad or the bandwidth is busy downloading or something.

And I play a lot of NA, Canadians, Australians, etc with no lag at all. I'd say more than 95% of my matches were lag free. You should complain to your ISP and they should send a technician to analyze your connection. Some years ago at my folks place the connection was a mess, they checked it and something on the post outside needed serious repair. Everything was perfect since then :)

Rocman, as far as I know an update form Nintendo is expected sometime soon with the addition of a "Tournament Mode" to facilitate tournament arrangements. But for now I think you really have to arrange things and schedule the games.

I can get perfect connection as long as no one else in my house is connected to wifi. My only other problem would be 8 player brawls. I find it ironic that the first match that lagged at all happened today.

I don't even want to talk about Smash 3DS's wifi, that was terrible.

I've played at some of my friend's houses and SSBWiiU was just as laggy there. Granted, there are some matches that are smoother than others but it's still not as good as Super Street Fighter IV on the Xbox 360.

Why don't you guys meet up for some on-line friendlies and let the rest of us know how it works out? I'd love to read about your exploits in the same way that we've shared our Mario Kart 8 Friday night escapades. :)

We should play with each other and then against you to see if that match is laggy.

Who plays Smash here, other than we 3? Boomdiers was the only one who responded to the "let's play together"

I'm on the East Coast of the United States, North Carolina to be exact, so matches against others in my general vicinity will probably be lag free.

In our weekly Mario Kart 8 races, when it was just U.S. contestants, things were smooth as a whistle. It wasn't until we raced against Australians that I noticed some pretty major lag related issues.

Just wanted to mention; many people who play 1-on-1 Smash on-line fight very defensively. I find that to be beyond tedious. Who cares if you win or lose as long as you show what you've got. If you're just going to camp on the edge of the stage and spam projectiles why bother? To be completely honest, I much prefer to play Team Smash but it tends to be more laggy. :-/

I'm in Pennsylvania Grizz so we would probably be lag free, idk about Nuno though. I have a feeling he would lag a lot. Nintendo cannot seem to perfect Smash Bros Online.

@Grizz, yeah defensive types (specially campers) can be tedious to play. But, everyone has its own strategy that we have to respect. And even thought it can be boring and frustrating I like the occasional camper because it's the perfect opportunity for me to practice against that style, projectiles and getting closer to my opponent :)

@Rocman, there's nothing like giving it a try ;) I'll add you tonight and we can have a few matches to test the connections.

-----> Again, I play a lot of NA/CA and Australians with no lag at all and Australia/New Zeland are officially the farthest countries from my location (I checked lol http://furthestcity.com/).

The biggest obstacle are the time zones, and Europe to USA is tough. But figure out where every one is who might play, set a time that is inconvenient for all but NOT IMPOSSIBLE, and run with it. Good Luck!

Projectile spammers are fun to play against for the first few seconds of the match, that is until they realize that my Wario can swallow most projectiles rendering that part of their strategy useless. From that point forward these camper types usually just run away for the remainder of the match. Boring! :-/

RocMan and me could probably form a formidable team given that he's close enough to mitigate the effects of lag. BTW RocMan, who do you main in Sm4sh?

My main is Link, but I'm not half bad at Captain Falcon or Samus either.

I'm in Canada (Eastern Time Zone) and I play a decent amount too. Over the holidays I've played significantly less as I was busy and have so many other games to play, but like MK8 I'm usually down to hop on and play with others if its set up. :)
I main Yoshi and don't really care how others play :P
