I was curious as to what the breakdown is between those who strictly collect Amiibos, and those who (plan to) use them with their games, or roughly what combination thereof. So I added a poll. Hope you guys don't mind! ;)

Cool idea, floorcat!

My gameroom is literally being invaded by 2" toys to life figures. Skylanders, Disney, Marvel characters everywhere I look (and step  ). So I'm just going to buy an amiibo or two of my favorites (Samus owed, DK eyed). I hope Big N provides some game content beyond SSB and lame unlockables (though I think my Mii Samus racing suit is surprisingly rad). We'll see . . . I think Big N is still trying to figure it all out . . . .

Whether I get a Wii U someday or not I do hope to collect a few of the characters that I love such as Samus, Link and Donkey Kong. I'd love to display them out of package and spice up my living room a bit.

I really like the addition of the poll to this thread! :yeah:

My plan is to purchase only the characters I like in Amiibo form and then interface them with whatever software I own that supports them. Fortunately, my two favorite games for the Wii U (MK8 and SSBWiiU) both support Amiibo.

I'm a little bummed out that the Wario Amiibo probably won't have his classic purple overalls but if the mods on this site want to get me a Christmas gift for my contributions here I'm always open to one of these. :D

I think i've found the perfect solution for displaying any amiibo collection...

Posted Image

Made from sturdy corrugated cardboard with glossy print and a weighted base, this store display unit can hold 12 boxed amiibo figurines (ie. wave #1).
It's been used but in excellent condition without any stickers, writing or other damage.

Just to check with you guys, but am I missing anything rare up to date (wave 1 and 2)?

I got:
Link,
Pikachu,
Marth,
Little Mac,
Pit,
Zelda,
Wii Fit Trainer.

I know I'm still missing Villager as a rare one, but other than that?

Here in North Carolina the Kirby Amiibo is very easy to find. :kirby:

Villager is pretty much the only one I want that I don't have. My Wal-Mart here had plenty of Samus (two pegs full) and a peg full of Kirby.

That shelving is really nicely done...

...and it's a good thing there's so much blank space on that wall...

Sure would be fun to train that Pikachu in Super Smash Bros. Wii U.

I can still find really rare Amiibos in stores around where I live. Idk if people just aren't interested in them or what. I would have bought a Marth if I had the money but I had to buy some food. I could buy all of set 1 and 2 if I had the money and not use Amazon or Ebay.

I went by Gamestop today and was so tempted to pick up a Samus Amiibo. I'm not really a fan of her in Smash or even her own games but that Amiibo sure looks sweet.

Kirby is a great character but for some reason I find his Amiibo uninspiring. I guess you can't expect much from a little pink ball. No wonder all the stores around me still have tons of Kirbys left. I'm seeing a lot of Luigis too which I can kinda understand because his pose doesn't do him justice.

This is just crazy. I somewhat agree on the overly promotion of Rosalina, but this is just crazy.
And, I like Rosalina in MK8, so still going to trace one down

I agree, I don't like Rosalina much either, but the real reason this guy is doing this is to make money, all the figures that he hates are characters that only more experienced Nintendo fans would know about. He's going to wait until these characters sell out, take the 100 that he has and then sell them on EBay for insane amounts of money and get collecters to buy them bc they can't find them anywhere else. It's all just a get rich quick scheme, so u better get these figures in-store or you will be emptying your wallet for them.

saw the article very terrible man who buy so much rares that people wont be able to get, and come on dude let other people get to chance to get it, alot of people do like Rosalina even it was a not a known character. I wish he could just keep few of them not loads, sell them a little bit over price so that people can get a chance to get rares. It was a good way to make money but this so unfair

"While it seems excessive, it's just a fraction of the amount of money Daily Dose claims to have committed to amiibo. He says that he has already spent more than $4,000, and that he has an additional $35,000 to invest on the figurines. Of those funds, he states that he intends to spend heavily on Lucina, Palutena, Robin, and Zero Suit Samus -- all out of a similar hatred and disdain that he has for Rosalina."

It's tragic when the mentally unstable of our planet's wealthiest 1% get in to video game and associated memorabilia collecting. <_<

I think the key point in this story is "claims"...
But if it is accurate, how does this guy still think that ANYONE would possibly buy a single amiibo from him?

@Rocman- It is good to hear about that you still come across sought after Amiibos...
I would also have the belief that it is not as hard as it seems.

A little leg work can go a long way. :yeah:

How could he have ordered over 300 in 30 minutes and if target had a limit on each figure to order? Just because of him and some people on ebay who have claimed to buy so many of this figure my siblings and I are gonna have to camp stores in hopes of getting any of the exclusives outside of the 6 i was blessed to preorder.

Okay, soap box moment. Even at those numbers, I think it's going to be hard to move the needle when it comes to impacting availability.

Let's say he dedicates all his $35,000 to trolling Amiibo collectors. Nintendo sold 710,000 in 3 weeks. That's $9.2 million in revenue. Even if he dedicated his funds over the same time period, he's only taking 0.3% of the market. If he spreads it out, he's taking even less.

Despite his attitude, he isn't screwing over collectors. What he IS doing is taking advantage of the scarcity of Amiibo to turn a profit. You can form your own opinions on the ethics of that. But as far as the impact of his actions on you and me, the effect is negligible.

The Amiibo market is HUGE. Big enough that a small group of people aren't going to change its course. Shortages are coming because there are a huge number of people in the market right now. You have millions of people willing to drop $20 - $60 on Amiibo figures. That is a tidal wave compared to a few profiteers willing to take a risk to drop $20,000.

I'm not defending practices like this. But he's getting out of it exactly what he wants. He gets to troll Nintendo fans and collectors... and make money doing it. I see nothing more.
