No, GameStop has empty promo boxes out. My heart skipped about five beats when I saw them, thinking the game released more than a month early, but no such luck.

Really looking forward to this one. Pre-ordered at Target so hoping to have Day One. Wonder if others here also excited. Poll added.

It's something I've been interested in since it was announce, but I doubt it will be a day one purchase for me. There's at least three other games I want to purchase/reserve before I get this one.

I will get it eventually, though. Being able to swim in your used ammo definitely has to be a lot of fun. :P

I normally would not link an article from another gaming site here, but this headline screams "must read" to N64 fans:
There might be a bit of Perfect Dark in Splatoon

Ohhh I miss you old Rare...Perfect DArk was probably the summun of the FPS at that moment.

I always wonder... if N64 would be created right now with all the internet stuff, Perfect Dark could be as legendary as Halo or other franchises. There are no games right now with such contecnt: story mode (1p or 2p coop or anti coop), challenges, tutorials, weapon challenges, versus mode, bots...

@bluedogrulez I just received an email from Nintendo to participate in an online testing of a Splatoon Demo next Saturday, called "Splatoon Global Testfire". Did you guys get that in the US?
I'm very excited to try it :yeah:

Game looks fun! Not sure if it'll be a day-one purchase for me but we'll see. Anyone else get a spunky Jet Set Radio vibe from this game?

The single player trailer gave me that vibe big time.

And now to check my email for once to see about this whole "test fire" thing. :)

EDIT: Oh wow! Apparently, the first test fire is tonight at 11 PM EST (if I got my timezone times right). And to think I would have missed it if it wasn't for this thread.

Currently playing now, and its a blast! Controls took some getting used to but I'm now on my 4th game (I've only ever used the default splatter gun so far) and I'm loving it :)

Played about 1,5 hour today, split over 2 sessions. Really loving the game, although I wonder how the single player will be. Multiplayer is a blast for sure :D

Got to play 2 full sessions and then coached my daughter for half of the third session. Really fun, but I wish I was intuatively better ; ). Some of these gamers online are already great. This one dude saw my daughter's character, hopped up two creates, jumped off and splattered her with the roller! Very impressive.

I do wish four people in my game room could play each other without online (a la Mario Kart). But sure it will be a hit regardless. And I admit enjoying Squid Jump too, lol.

Played for about 40 minutes in the last session today and i liked it despite my usual clumsiness in 3D shooters. And i was also amazed at how quickly some players seemed to have mastered it. However, i'm not sure about the long-term appeal of squirting ink.

Played through the first and third sessions from beginning to end. Now I want the game more than I did before. >_< I started off with the Splattergun Jr., but quickly switched to the Splattergun and stayed with it for my remaining playtime.

I still think they should add voice chat, but I won't pretend not to know why they're leaving it out. I've played enough Xbox Live to know that not everyone can be mature about winning or losing. Still, maybe it doesn't need it. You get a map with your progress anyway as well as your teammates' position and the objective is simple: paint the town...your color.

Don't think I'll be able to get this one at launch still, but I hope everyone else here who will has fun.

My first impressions (I only managed to play 20 min):

- I couldn't get used to the Y-Axis motion control. I was constantly trying to aim with the Right-Stick.
- It seemed like a bunch of fun and like fresh air to the shooter genre.
- It kinda begs for a voice chat... Shooter team play without communication is like food with no salt.
- Overall, the game is so different that 20 mins were not enough for me to get used to but one thing is for sure, when time ran out I could pay to keep playing right there!

I've read that the options menu allowed players to switch to right-stick aiming. With the time limitation, I did not check it out ....

I was thinking to myself exactly that, there's got to be a way to switch that but I couldn't find it. Then time ran out...

If i remember correctly, you could pick the control option before playing the off-line tutorial level.
In any case: I never used motion control in this game.

Yes, there was definitely a way to change out of motion controls but I never tried them. From what I read, motion controls are awkward at first, but they are more accurate than using the right stick. I was having so much fun (and strong performances) when I played that I didn't even want to try. I'm fairly certain that I only lost 2 games out of the one hour and 20 minutes that I played overall throughout 2 sessions, and was top of my team every time 8). I only used one weapon however (the default splatter gun with shield powerup) so I kind of wish I tried the other ones however :P

So the new Splatoon commercial is a bit cringey....but I guess it makes sense since it's more targeted towards kids.

I actually really like it. It captures the basic gameplay, with some more hardcore elements (like the hiding on top of stuff and ambushing). I think it is very well done.

I regrettably admit that I am still confused about the number of players on the same Wii U. I know offline its 2 players, one using the game pad screen and the other the TV. But when online, wondering/fearing if only 1 player per wii u?!?!?

I still have high hopes for this one, but I was hoping for some 4 player, mario kart type madness in the game room.....

I've done some reading on Splatoon since the Testfires and I don't recall hearing anything about local online multiplayer. I would honestly imagine that the initial game won't have that feature because the gamepad is used to "jump" to teammates in online games, but perhaps later on this will be changed or solved similar to Mario Kart's tweaks.
I did remember hearing about this (in bold below) a number of times which is still pretty exciting.

"Free Post-Launch Content: Five Turf War stages will be available at launch, but Nintendo will continue to add free new stages throughout summer 2015. Additionally, Nintendo plans to continually expand the game with new weapons, battle modes and gear. A major game update event in August will add two additional matchmaking options, including the ability for friends to form four-person teams and search for other four-person teams to battle against. The second option lets eight friends join up to battle in four-on-four matches on any stage and with any rules they want. The August update will also deliver a new battle mode and additional gear for characters to wear."

Another Splatoon Global Testfire is scheduled for this Saturday (5/23) at 6 PM NYC Time. My expectations are tempered because my kids already love this game--they brought the mop outside the other day and told me they were playing Splatoon with the "roller". So I'm thinking they will be excluding dear old dad from their Testfire time. ;_; :D
