Today is bluedog's big break! Splatoon comes out today!
The game might be the reason I buy a Wii U, though it seems very multiplayer centered. Can someone give me some sight about this?

Some fun games with Boomdiers and bluedog! I got disconnected so I took it as a sign to take a break :P
Too bad the game doesn't allow you to pick your side yet since we were always split up it seemed :-/

However we did get that one victory together the 3 of us, representing N64 Forever :D

Hey, did either of you use the "Friends" function to find me/Guite/Boomdiers, or was it totally by chance?

Yeah I saw you online and joined up

Boomdiers and I had already played a few matches together (although the game seems to want to put us apart most of the time) so I think he joined me again and we were all together :P

I got to play a couple of matches and loved it.
I'm not very good at FPS games and this one's no exception but it still was a lot of fun just to participate in the mayhem.
Unexpectedly leaning towards motion-control now because i just can't properly manage two thumb sticks.
Yeah, i know i suck

One day, one day, I'll figure out a strategy for the warehouse. That open middle leaves me scratching my head as to where to roll.

Joined up with Boomdiers again tonight and marveled at his greatness. I embarrassed myself with the .54 gun but played better with the first available roller (better sub weapons than the second roller, right?!?

Oh noes... To my surprise I am already getting frustrated with this game.
I ALWAYS loose? Must be bad luck but it is so annoying never to be on the winning team.
A few major issues in my opinion:

- First of all the kill mechanics are a joke, you just die by chance soooo often, it even seems unfinished.
- your not playing as a team, everybody is doing his own thing.
- often you jump to friend to be killed instantly wtf? Why is there no 2 second immunity or something
- Whats up with the matchmaking system. You never get matched up equaly - sometimes you play in a team with 3 snipers and therefore cannot win? What were they thinking?
- I'm level 7 - and I play with Level 4-9 - How can the other team have 4 Level 10+ ?

I will give Splatoon in another chance in ranked mode, maybe it will change with skill

@buddy: there are 4 Wii U games that have kept me up way too late. You know two of them (bayonetta 1-2), MK8 and Splatoon. I know with the amiibo, the cost adds up, but they really aren't necessary. Do not think you will regret this purchase one bit.

Okay, so in my last post I argued a little too strong, acted prematurely and didn't really give a reasonable opinion on the game.
I have ranked up to Level 14 now and play ranked. I also got considerably better and it is sooo much more fun now.
In higher ranks other players are also very skillful so the team issue along with most of the others is resolved.
Most matches are really awesome now and I'd even say this is on f the best Wii U games right now.

The only BIG Issue is the respawn if you die. Not only can you die after super jumping a team mate, the enemy is even informed cause your landing position is shown to your enemy a few seconds before you land. In ranked matchups the players will always wait for this and I just find it very frustrating to play a game where you can just die 5x in a row with out even really doing anything. This causes severe balance issues. With MK8, witch has a similar competitive background the "catching up" problem was resolved alot better.

@Bamboozled: I didn't mean to scare anyone, I just come from a highly competitive gaming background. So stuff like that bothers me sometimes. You should buy it and try it out yourself. It is truly a new archetype and a gaming experience different to any other game.

Played turf wars for two hours tonight. Figured everyone would use the paint brush, so I traded in my trusty roller for .92. Different way of playing for me, but was fun. An hour in, most seemed to ditch the brush and go for their default weapons. Back to the Kraken roller for me and splat went my foes, lol.

Where does one get the aerosprayers? Seems like the choice weapon of top players.....

Yeah the paintbrushes seem kind of fun, but hard to use because they seem very weak.

The Krak-On roller is definitely seen as the best roller weapon so I'm not surprised by that pick!

Both aerosprays are unlocked in the weapon shop after you beat the 3rd boss in the single player campaign. They are seen as the best for turf war because of their super high rate of fire, meaning they can cover a lot of ground very quickly. In ranked when there is much more killing and action going on, they are still seen but not nearly as much. :)

@DarkLink yeah the super jump technique can be very frustrating but that is why you have to play smart and think about whether you truly want to jump in or not. If I die and I am looking to jump back in, I often wait 2-3 seconds to see on the map if anyone is in a firefight. If they are, I play it safe and jump to someone farther back. :) In turf war it isn't a big deal but in ranked, a poor jump can often mean you lose the game (especially when more than one person makes a bad jump at the same time).
Don't forget that you can get a clothing ability that makes you're super jumps "stealthy" which means it doesn't show where you're landing!

When the Wii U was launched, many reviewers pointed out that it was lacking a true "killer app"; something like Wii Sports that would instantly convince people that the Gamepad added another dimension to gameplay. I personally feel that Splatoon is that game (at last!). The combination of motion and button control plays so much better and the interactive map is pretty essential if you want to win.

Starting to be more of a hunter (even with the roller). Set a personal best with 10 splats in one nice win tonight. I do so love The Kraken. Then it was onto Ranked Battle.

My first foray into Ranked Battle. Went with the Splattershot and it was effective. One my first game and a KO on the third for some big $$$, but then the wins got real scarce. Challenging for sure, but fun too.
