Sounds like it may have been the plasticky clone (did it look almost exactly like a genuine module, but lighter shade on the case?) Those are known to not last long at all, they're already a bit loose from new and the plastics are very cheap. |

That sounds exactly like what it was. It was definitely a little lose but tighter than what I replaced but it wore out so much faster than I thought it would. |

Whoa No64DD!!! That is a heck of a time. Color me impressed! @Bam... Hey just play some GP and have some fun for a while. With every new Mario Kart game, I made it a point to get golds on all cups before I'd dive into time trials. That was always a good way to learn the new physics and the tracks. Don't worry. This game has been around 19 years, it isn't going anywhere! =) |

I tried getting the hang of power sliding on Rainbow Road today. I'm getting better. At least, I'm pretty sure I am. As for the dark slide... Edited by Bamboozled, Mar 3 2016, 05:15 PM.

I think there's quite a big difference between GP and timetrial times just in the fact that you get 3 boost mushrooms when you start a timetrial race. I'd have to fire up the game to check (like I said I know very little about MK) but I don't think you get those in a GP race? Perhaps that's why you've been struggling to get close to the times? Of course racing against your ghost and not being distracted by other racers on screen are further advantages.

Ahh, indeed these times are all submitted in Time Trials. And Bam you're right it never actually says that in the rules. An oversight on my part, not seeing the forest for the trees I suppose. I can't imagine having to turn in times while trying to avoid random bananas and rubber band-y racers on the track! Time trials is a much more controlled environment, and much less randomness going on. Suppose I should amend those rules. =P |

The reason why my times are getting closer is because I've been attempting them in 150 CC. Since my game is in Japanese, I can only understand the little bits of English. Is there a way to set Time Trials (which I assume is the option below) to 150 CC? Because every time I try the option that I'm pretty sure is TT, my times are actually slower. On a side note, I noticed a few seconds never mattered more.

In all regions of the game, time trials runs at 100cc speed. I know it's hard to believe some of these times are possible at first. I remember thinking the same thing looking at reader times in Tips & Tricks magazine back in the day. And to beat some of these times you'll have to use some creative strategies. It's almost never a good idea to use your mushroom on a straightaway for instance. If you can use them to cut across grassy sections, you can save seconds. And each little tweak to your route around the track you find all adds up. If you find a away to save 1 second per lap, then you just cut your time 3 total seconds. Or sometimes it's better to use all 3 shrooms on 1 lap. It's really like sculpting something out of stone. You can't just whack it a couple times with a hammer. You chip away at a track slowly, taking away a little excess here and there. If you have the resolve to keep playing. I think you'll find yourself being competitive sooner than you think. |

Woo! First time on the board ![]() Luigi's raceway with Toad 1.44:95 ![]() I'm coming for that Kartmaster time next! Beyond that though...I think I need to learn some more advanced techniques! What's the best character to use for timetrial anyway? I haven't tried many but I can't really tell much of a difference between characters like Toad and Yoshi. Toad might be slightly faster? Or does it depend largely on the stage? Linus |

Peach, Toad, and Yoshi are the fastest characters for me. Good time. I beat my best on the same track last night but didn't take a picture because it was still only good enough for 4th. I also need to learn how to do the power slide turbo while going straight. I have tried some but just can't do it. |

Ok thanks will try peach next. And getting those straight line turbo slides consistently is stumping me too. I can get a couple per race but often lose more than I gain when I get it even slightly wrong. Needs really fast inputs! Edit: Ok, I'm kinda getting the hang of the straight line turbos but I seem to be losing time overall when trying to combine it all... ![]() Calling it a night, since mk64 seems to have had enough too! ![]() -- Edit: Finally strung together some turbos down the home straight and a pretty clean race overall. Happy with this time.![]() First try at Moo Moo farm TT, got this 1:20.33 after a couple of tries. Definitely room for improvement, gotta learn to dodge those moles better! Feels really roomy for powersliding compared to Luigi's raceway ![]() Edited by LinusHofmann, Mar 7 2016, 10:35 PM.

You were right, got a 1:19.18 fairly easily. This one still felt really sloppy compared to my Luigi's raceway time so I'm sure I can improve it a bit still. I guess I need to start taking some more daring lines between the moles to knock that next second down.![]() Woo, points! Well, A point... |
