You know what's funny, though?
I've tried for 2 hours everyday this week. I'm now reporting Nintenditis. My times have gotten close, but Mainer must have sent Blue Shells after my thumb.

@ Bamboozled - believe me when I say it took me 2 hours a day for several days to get most of my times. I Bet it would take me at least 1 hour to try and beat one of these times (Probably more... like 3 hours a track).

I'd second this, a lot of these times were done just picking up the controller. I'd say when I was just getting started I was putting a couple hours into a race, and even still not grabbing points. After my first blister it started to get easier for sure.

Keep at it, and the time will come!

Nice time, that last half second from there seems like a tough ask for me. I've tried abit tonight but the 1.42 has eluded me by a hair. Still only 1.43:20.
I've started doing an extra boost just before the tunnel, so I can que up a second one going downhill and keep momentum down and out of the tunnel, I think that's going to help with the 42 if I can string together 3 good laps.

Getting pretty good at doing consecutive boosts down the straight.

The race to Luigi's 3rd place continues! :)

I never did figure out the straight away boosts (I assume you are talking at the beginning of the race)

If you are able to pull that off, you have a good chance at hitting a very decent race.

Yeah like turbo sliding down the back straight, right off the start I can get one in before the little jump and usually another before hitting the fist corner.
I can fairly consistently get about 3 boosts down the length of the straight on each lap. It's hard to get them all clean and maximize momentum though.

Wait, you're getting a 1.42 without turbos down the straight? If so I must be doing something tragically wrong somewhere else  :P

Haha, yep, I think your thumb is evolving. :yeah:
Give the thumb a bit of a break and when you come back you may be amazed at how much more quickly it can pull off those turbo movement.

Ya it took quite a bit of work, but I focused my energy on setting a decent time, and slowly shaving time off, knowing full well the route wasn't the fastest

Interesting, it's probably true I try for strats that are a bit too advanced for my own good sometimes.
Lots of failed races because of dropping a turbo on the straight or slightly touching the grass. Unless it's really spot on, just going straight is probably faster

But when/if it does eventually all come together it should be a nice time, fingers crossed.

What I'm also learning as I get better at setting up the turbos, is to let the kart "breath" between the slides. Going right back into a powerslide immediately after getting a boost isn't always beneficial since turning sharply scrubs speed... At least I think.

This turbo slide thing is a really great mechanic for timetrial once you get the hang of it.

This is definitely where I'm at. I really thought I was missing something technical, but as I play, I keep whittling my time down by .3 seconds or so. Just need to dial it in I think. And I know I'm not hugging that last turn through the grass close enough.

Terrible start but excellent last two laps, if I tie everything together it's going to be a points time for sure! :)

If you're that close, might as well keep going for 1st! How's your thumbstick holding up to the torture?

Feels like I'm still really far away from a low 1.42, but maybe during the next session.
Right now I'm just getting slower and slower so the 1.42:76 will have to do for now.

Status report after about 5 hours of MK tonight

stick : No signs of wear
left thumb: Slight signs of wear ;)
right thumb: ARGH! ;_;

Dunno why holding down / pressing the A button is causing me so much pain, need some padding or something.

Well done Linus! I can't get the straight line power slides to save my life.
They're tough, I still fail them quite a lot. You kind of have to get a slide started with only a partial turn to make sure you don't go straight off into the weeds with a severe angle. Then get the input timing spot on and fast to pull it off before you hit the other border of the track.
Easy to practice on moo-moo straight, very hard to do on Luigi's I find.

I also find I can do them better/faster in one direction rather than the other, so maybe try that too.

I should probably try some other tracks next, and then come back to shave that extra hundredth off these two...

Well I got a new time on Moo Moo, 1'17'81. 2nd place nabbed from Pimpin! :yeah:

I think you need to touch up your time here rdools... :D
...cause my 2nd lap sucked beyond belief (lost almost a second!).

Just really sloppy driving and losing quite a few turbo setups.

So I don't think it will be long before I get first here I think.
Just need some good mole luck three times in a row and be more consistent with my laps! :)

Sorry man, but I think I just genuinely raised the bar a little more with this 1'17"42...

Oh and I'm uploading a vid of the replay, it's still a little sloppy on lap 2 but overall pretty happy with it.
