After passing out on my couch for a few hours I awoke to one last ground shaking E3 announcement, although I'm happier with this one since I'll be able to play this game for sure: Shenmue III! Oddly enough its getting a Kickstarter for a PS4 and PC release but I'll take it. I gotta figure out how to come up with the funds to back this although I assume that if its successful (it will be, its almost there already) I'll be able to buy the game later on down the road. Wow, what an E3...

It's still unbelievable for me that someone showed a Kickstarter on this E3, ignoring the fact that it's a popular series (which I don't really know what it is - I should take a look, especially because I heard about it since nearly a decade ago).

I knew it was a very praised series, but wow, that's too fast! XD Well, we'll see how far it'll go once the campaing is over. :P

Yep, that's EXACTLY how it is for me.

And at a side note in a matter of 4 hours (when I first checked) there's been 100,000+ dollars pledged.

Just over 24 hours in and its almost hit $3,000,000 pledged. I'm still pretty giddy about this one. ^_^

And now I'm officially a backer myself.

There are indeed. Shenmue is a cult game already. Truly a gem from the amazing Dreamcast.

There should be a Kickstarter for a Dreamcast 2 :)

There were 4 $10,000 rewards and they were quickly gone.

Yeah, my head spun when I saw that. 10,000 dollars is half a years salary for some people!

And someone got the creators jacket. But that's kind of crazy, 10,000 for a JACKET.

I don't know about you guys but I am so buzzing for this it is unreal. I am currently playing Shenmue on my Dreamcast getting all in the zone for this. It has been such a long wait - but hopefully worth it. Fortunately I decided to buy a PS4 rather than an Xbox One this generation so I am not forced to spend crazy money to get the game. :yeah: 8)

My parents would kick me out of home if I bought one more console, so I'd just go for the PC version. And for that I need a brand new PC first. x_x The PS3 can render better graphics than my desk PC, so figure it out. I'm really looking forward on this, since I'd like to use painting softwares and Blender (3D modeling and animating program) without any lag.

I'm so glad this is the case. It is saddening in a way after all this wait we still have to wait until Dec 2017 for the release. That said, after the wait we have had, what is another two and a half years... <_<

Very true! Heck, I haven't even played the second game as I didn't own it until the last few years. I have plenty of time to run through both games. By the way, there may not be a physical retail release of Shenmue III for PS4. I've been hearing way too many times that the only guaranteed physical release is for backers. I'm so glad I made sure I funded this one if that is the case.

Yeah we will have to see. I backed also to get a copy. I hope it is official case rather than just a disk in a sleeve which would be equally annoying. Time will tell. Not going to be too negative or demanding just glad it has finally been announced.

I haven't played through them both for a good 9 years or so. I only know this as it was he latest save date on my Shenmue II. It was surprising how much I could remember like where to go to get information etc given they were not games I overly exhausted. Really good games for me. :yeah:

So here we are two years later and we don't really have much further development other than the December 17 release date will not be met and it will be looking more likely to be second half of 2018. Well I've been waiting 16 years for this what's another year eh?

Very conscious about the physical copy thing I've donated $60 on the Kickstarter for the continuing finance of Shenmue III and help support the development of this much awaited, and absolutely necessary game in my opinion, to bring closure to so many gamers myself included. For that I get a physical PS4 or PC copy of the game and I will be opting for a PS4 copy, when the time comes.

Man, feels like a lifetime waiting for this game. It might be easier to just create the ending up in my head and gain closure. I guess from the previous success of comments in this thread that Shenmue isn't that popular amongst N64Forever members, which is a shame, it is a great series albeit some of us are dying (literally - my age has over doubled) in the wait for the third instalment.

I bought a brand new Dreamcast for this game (and others) about a year ago. I enjoyed it - it has a unique atmosphere, being set in '80s Japan. The English voice acting is famously pretty rough so I got a copy of 'Shenmue undubbed" which is the original voice acting with English subtitles put together by fans.

I haven't started Shenmue 2 yet but it's sitting on the shelf ready to go. Is it better than the first game?

Very similar really but new environments. It does improve on the first I would say. If you're playing the DC version it is in Japanese anyway with English subtitles - they didn't release this game with English language on DC. It was later released on the Xbox though in English.

It's good you'll enjoy it. It's just a shame we have to wait for the instalment after. Without ruining it for you, the story is far from finished despite 4 disks of Shenmue II!

I completed both around 2 years ago upon release of Shenmue III information and enjoyed playing them as much then as I did back in the day. Good games. Fantastic plot.

I definitely want to play the second game before 3 comes out - just curious if 2 is better than 1 :)

Completely subjective Andy. It is a decent game and it progresses the story further, takes you further into Ryo's quest and you meet some more awesome characters along the way. But as I said before, some of us are dying here waiting for the next chapter!

Thanks Milage - I'll definitely give 2 a go. I sympathize, I backed this too & it's odd that there's not been more consistent updates.

Oddly enough I am probably more patient now than I would have been had this happened a decade ago. They do still update at times but I'm avoiding all info aside from the eventual release date announcement. I trust my $90 pledge will yield a finished product someday. Plus, I haven't played 1 & 2 yet! I keep wishing for that remaster rumor to come true. :yeah:

Really should give them a whirl Red. Just about finding the time amongst all other things. Fair play for pledging 90 bucks and you haven't played the first two yet. Good on you.

As for the remaster, that would be awesome. It would grab a whole new audience for the third instalment as well I would imagine. We can hope!

Well, I have played the first game but it was years ago (probably '01 or '02 when I got my first Dreamcast) and I adored it. I never got to try II as I never owned an OG Xbox but I own a copy now that's playable on the 360. I just need to make time for them before III but I want to make sure a remaster doesn't happen first.

I have to admit that this renewed discussion is making me a little more anxious for III's arrival now.

Yeah I just think it is a fantastic storyline and because it is far from finished it's been a lifelong cliffhanger. I'd be lieing if I said I've been waiting all these years non stop but every now and again I've always thought I wish it would come. It remains one of my favourite game(s). It was a good part of childhood and just the whole open world, making your way, fighting, and just the puzzle nature in general, wrapped inside a really obsorbing plot, made for a good challenge and in a way helped me mature.

I think they will do the remaster because look how well the Kickstarter for 3 did. New record right and significantly! Sega would be looking at that thinking they can capitalise on that opportunity and I really think it would help boost Shenmue III sales on the back of a new audience. So perhaps it would be good to wait a bit longner. I can imagine we should be hearing something about it soon if it is coming.
