we don't know the first thing yet about nintendo's next console. we dont even know if it's a console at all, or a handheld. that doesn't hinder us to speculate and post our wishlists :P

- a regular controller, something like the WiiU pro controller being the only controller available and needed to play games
- backwards compatibility with Wii and WiiU and a simple software update that makes us play all these games with the WiiUpro controller
- if i can be greedy, i would like to have multi-coloured controllers and consoles with colourfull buttons. bring back the atomic / funtastic series that was brilliant! the white / black schemes have outstayed their welcome afaic
- BRING BACK CARTDRIDGES. yes, you heard me. clunky, big, nostalgic cartdridges. with memory getting cheaper by the day, and some flash cartridges having more memory space than blu-rays, and most importantly no loading times and no disc damage it could be the best console since the :n64:
- i want some games to play! not 500 different mario licenced games and donkey kong. i want f zero, metroid, wave race, pilotwings, 1080 snowboarding, the top gear series, rogue squadron etc... nintendo consoles haven't seen a varied and eclectic library since the days of the gamecube
- which leads me to the next point: have competitive hardware. without it, developers wont bother to port their games to the next nintendo console

-Hardware to rival the PS4 and Xbone
-A dang name that's catchy and doesn't confuse people (Wii U and 'New' 3DS, seriously?)
-Marketing to distinguish that it's a brand new innovative console (Looking at you again, Wii U)
-Wii and Wii U backwards compatibility, perhaps GC too
-Less Emphasis on Motion Controls and VR
-New Metroid game developed by Retro Studios

That's all I can think of for now. I'm just wondering if this NX will be a actual traditional console with physical media. It's hard to tell as we keep on advancing through new generations.

a creative design of the control deck would be most welcome too. not something extremely generic and dull. looking at your, wii and wiiU.

you couldnt reckognise them in a pile of old PC hardware if you tried.

but the mighty N64 or even the purple lunchbox are instantly reckognisable

What I want most is for it to be released in a few years time. Feels like I've only just brought the Wii u. I definitely won't be buying their new console anytime soon.

backwards compatibility without a 2nd screen.

there are millions invested un SmashBros an other games would be weird not to "convert" it to the NX.
also if people bought a wiiu and games. it could have negative effect on players

other then that.. if you check the specs..between the rivals

ps4: ram. 8gb. hdd 1tb (coming soon)
xbox ram 8gb hdd 1tb
wiiu : ram 1 gb hdd 8/32 gb

see where Im going?

IF Nintendo wants to blow minds and go in front with next gen. they need to do everything or nothing basicly. one Monster of a console with true Next Gen stuff and. easy engine to create games on. and actually be on the E3.

also. make different colors! the more colors. the well it will sell i guess

I really hope this doesn't come out till 2018-2019, I just got my WiiU!

I think the NX will be a combination of a home console and a portable console.
It will be backwards compatible with the WiiU and it will have the dual screens so you can take gameplay on the go. I don't think it will be backward compatible with the Wii I think you will have to buy Wii games on the eShop. And I think it will also be based around Amiibo.

What I actually hope for, since I like the second screen (if used properly) is home console-handheld hybrid. Being able to play on the handheld+console like a WiiU, but being able to play on it's own like Gameboy. With an infinite range, instead of the small "not so portable after all" WiiU Gamepad.

Some "reboots" of older series would be cool. F-Zero, Eternal Darkness, Geist etc. Maybe bring back some of the better 3rd party games. And I would kill for a new SSX on a Nintendo. The WiiU has nothing, Blur on the Wii sucks balls, but man o man, dit SSX 3 and On Tour on the Cube rule.

@Kamikaze: I think you are getting your wish!!

The story on the attached link reports a scaling back of NX production in 2016, BUT it offers the first concrete description of the NX that I've seen. And, according to this article, the NX sounds like a Wii U Gamepad that is (1) completely portable, and (2) functions as a console rather than a second screen. I love the Gamepad, so I really love this concept . . . but those who are not fans of its bulk might be a bit upset (or otherwise question how a device with a 5 to 7" screen will be portable). Anyway, here the article on the NX

VR?? Now that's big news!

If the portable/console hybrid is a thing, I'd like to see the graphics power boosted when it connects to a console base. So for example, there is a base unit that the handheld connects to that isn't a console in itself, but just houses a graphics card/upgrade so the games will run at a lower fidelity power-saving mode when portable but when connected to the base, adds enough extra graphical fidelity to compete with or exceed the current gen consoles - like running a PC game at low/medium vs ultra settings.

Nintendo has said that a major part of their change of focus will be to concentrate a lot of effort in releasing a constant and regular stream of first party titles which would be awesome - hope this plays out.

Also, I wish they would go all out on attracting third parties. I have no faith that they will, knowing their recent history - and the fact that their console design will probably be different enough from the others to make straight ports difficult. If they don't, though, I worry for their future. Hopefully the console will be enough of a hit for 3rd parties to come over anyway, like with the Wii - but I have my doubts.

I would like them to finally get their heads around marketing. They were abysmal at getting their message across with the Wii U & I so hope they get this right with the NX.

A full 3D Mario game not too long after launch.

Like you say, the 5-7" screen sounds odd - not like a true portable :/

Since this is going to be a hybrid, I wonder what will happen with the DS market. Ideally I would like this to be WiiU, Wii, GC, DS, and 3DS compatible. That sounds like a bit of a dream though.

@sublime: But you also want it built with the latest and greatest technical architecture, right? :D I suspect the only backwards compatibility this time will be via virtual console . . . but the compatibility you speak of would be sweet.

Note: If the NX is small enough to be portable and serves as its own console . . . what does that mean for it having a CD/DVD drive? As rumored, I think it will not have one (boo!), which would put a serious dent in backwards compatibility.

Not that it confirms anything, but their recent patent outlines a console with no disc drive that relies on digital downloads... Shame if so as I enjoy collecting physical media..

Article

EDIT: just read your post properly :)

I want a console/controller hybrid as well, with backwards compatibility with the 3DS and Wii U. I think that small cartridges like the 3ds would work well, considering that there is space for them in a handheld.

Probably, though, Nintendo will surprise us and it will be something completely different. :D

Honestly I'm only hoping for it to play Nintendo games and have a strong line up of first party titles. I'd really like to see Luigis Mansion 3 and a new RPG style Mario Golf game.
