Really cool item. Just to sum up the Q&A so far: - Current owner got it from his dad, who got it thru his work (co-worker) who apparently worked at Nintendo at the time of the Nintendo-Sony team-up, - It's a Play Station prototype, - They are currently working on finding a fitting power supply, - System came with one disk and one cassette, might be demo stuff? For sure going to follow this one! |

the lucky finder has already revealed it's a fake according to Nintendo Life. And to be honest, i think that is very likely. |

Pretty cool! This item's existence seems to be gaining momentum! What gets me is the amount of logos and fonts, like thePlay Stationlogo; seems out of place and the wrong font. SONY wouldn't have been even using that name back then... would it?? Well, in 2002 i did see a real life pic of this thing! ![]() I believe it was on videogamedepot.com it was an actual picture of it sitting on a table, and not some stock photo they used for magazines like the one you see above. Somewhere there is a line of truth to all this ![]() |

Turns out it was not the original poster who called it a fake. But i'm a bit skeptical about the whole "missing power cord/adapter" issue. The Famicom/SNES part would certainly use a standard SNES psu Considering it claims to be a prototype i'm doubtful a dedicated psu would have been built at that early stage A seperate PSU or an internal power supply for the CD drive seems the most likely setup (the SNES "backup devices" i'm familiar with also use their own PSU) Another minor thing that is bugging me... a SONY PlayStation logo on a standard Famicom controller. That does not compute for me. Edited by Mk II, Jul 4 2015, 10:33 AM.

Yea I'm also a bit skeptical about the whole thing. The logos seem a bit odd since at the time it was called the play station not playstation. Idk if he gets it working Then I'll believe but as of now it's pseudo science

I think you guys raise a good point. The overall shape doesn't bother me because it's a prototype, but the fact that it has SONY PLAYSTATION all over it and there's only a few NINTENDO bothers me. Plus, the guy's story was a little unbelievable. He has no documentation, to my knowledge, of authenticity for the console. But the other stuff seems okay. At this point I'm on the line from real and fake.

I Also thought he said it was his fathers, would he be able to Ask good Old daD what the history is, get the inside story. And wouldn't his father know it's a valuable item since it was a prototype of an unreleased console with two of the biggest names in video game history? Lots of questions he should know. |

That would be cool but I doubt it since the PS1 was developed after Nintendo killed this project, but its a possibility! |

Fascinating find, real or fake. It still blows my mind that it was going to be a reality at one point..... One perhaps without our beloved N64 in it. |
