I've looked all over the Internet, including this very forum, and I can't seem to find the answer in looking for. I'm probably just misreading or searching for the wrong things, but I've decided to ask it here. Which will give me the better picture quality? A CRT tv with composite cables, or an HD TV with S-Video?

Actually, a CRT with an S-Video cable should give you a better display and playing experience than the options presented.

BDR is right. Most modern HDTVs don't handle the N64 output well at all. So get the best signal you have available to a CRT.

While I've seen some HDTVs that look great, my experience is that's not the norm.

The good thing is CRTs are super cheap. Or even free!

I had asked because I needed to make a decision on what to bring to college. I decided on the HDTV, and it doesn't look too bad. Pretty decent I'd say, though things in the distance seem much blurrier (like the far targets at the CI gun range in Perfect Dark). Can't wait to see how it looks with an s video cable.

Not bad at all! I'll have to see how Mario Kart looks on mine.
