First off a little back story.
I recently bought some old 1990-2005 gaming magazines and in one of them I found the sad news the Nintendo Gamecube got postponed to a later release date. To cheer people up they released a list of "confirmed" and "possible" titles for the system. For the Dutch people here: Power Unlimited, April 2001.

I think it's interesting to check out both lists and see what came of it. First, the scans.
The first scan left and middle row are "confirmed" titles. The right row on the first scan and left row on the second scan are "possible" titles. After that follow a little Q&A thingy with developers to see if they are going to make games for the Gamecube.

So here are the scans:

Now, the list. Just the "confirmed" list, because that's the most interesting one. The other will follow later. I did some research on it already. I'll add links later to whatever info I could find. Let me warn you, there are a lot of cancelled titles in here!

-1080 Snowboarding 2
Later became “1080 Avalanche”

- After Dark
Made by Rare, but seems to be cancelled since Rare didn’t release a GC game in 2001/2002. Maybe became "Grabbed by the Ghoulies".

- Army Men
Later became “Army men: Sarge’s War”

- Austin Powers
Made by Rockstar, cancelled

- Baskell
Made by Retro Studios, cancelled, but unsure on what name it later went to later in development? Retro Studios only released Metroid games for the Gamecube, and this is not one of them.

- Batman
Later known as “Batman Vengance”

- Bond Game
Later became “James Bond: Agent under Fire”, since it’s the first Bond game in the Gamecube

- Camelot
Probably the much spoken of Gamecube RPG that never came? Maybe a Gamecube Golden Sun under a different name?
http://www.ign.com/articles/2001/01/09/camelots-gamecube-rpg

- Crash Bandicoot
Became “Crash Bandicoot and the wrath of Cortex”

- Creatures
Made by Conspiracy. Seems to be cancelled as well?

- Dinosaur
Made by Ubisoft, but Ubisoft never released a Dinosaur-like game. Soo, cancelled as well?

- E.T.
Became “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: The Search for Dragora”, but is officially cancelled
http://www.ign.com/games/et-the-extra-terrestrial-the-search-for-dragora/gcn-480896

- ECW
The Gamecube never had an ECW game, but did have some Legends of Wrestling and WWE/WWF games. Might very well been renamed to LoW (part 1), since it’s an Acclaim wrestling game released early 2002. Maybe due to license problems?

- Fantasy
Made by Retro Studios, so cancelled. Also see Baskell.

- Fooll
Made by Retro Studios, so cancelled. Also see Baskell.

- HBO Boxing
Made by Acclaim. Cancelled. Did however get a release on PS1.

- International Track and Field
Made my Konami. Unsure about this one. Might have been renamed?

- Jacques Villeneuve: Virtual Velocity
Renamed to “Speed Challenge: Jacques Villeneuve's Racing Vision” and became PAL-exclusive

- Jurassic Park 3
Made my Konami. Probably cancelled. Since the Universal Park game is not made by Konami this is very unlikely the rename.

- Lego Technics
Sadly cancelled, but might have been the inspiration for the Bionicles game.

- Major League Baseball
Made by Midway. The only MLB game that came out is MLB 2K6, made by Kush and published by 2K. So this one is cancelled, as it is a season-bound game.

- Mario 128
Officially cancelled, but basicly the “basis” of Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii and Pikmin.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_128

- Metroid 4
Obviously became Metroid Prime

- Mickey Mouse
Developed by Rare, making it kind of strange. The only 2 Mickey Mouse games to come to the Gamecube (Hide & Seek and Magical Mirror) were made by Capcom. Maybe be it was in development when Rare and Disney still had a deal, but this was off when Rare was bought by Microsoft.

- Picasso
Made by Promethean Designs (who?). There is very little to be found on this one. Seems to just have disappeared, meaning cancelled.
http://gcgalaxy.tripod.com/GameCube/picasso.htm

- Rainbow Six
Made by Sapphire. I’m kind of in a blank on this one. Two Rainbow Six games did come out, but in 2004 and 2005, published by Ubisoft. Seems like this one is started and later replaced perhaps?
Tech Demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCy5Zou0eAw

- Resident Evil 4
Nothing special here

- Resident Evil Zero
Nothing special here as well

- Robotech
Here mentioned as made by Mattel. Later became “Robotech: Battlecry” made by TDK.

- Rugrats
Became “Rugrats: Royal Ransom”

- Saffire
Made by Saffire. Officially cancelled
http://www.ign.com/games/saffire/gcn-11489

- Shinjuku Happy Jumpers
Very much unsure on this. The only mention on this one is a very long development (“still in production in 2006”), being postponed to the Wii (wich in turn is a hoax). Was it every mend to exist at all?
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=102538
http://www.g4tv.com/games/wii/63556/shinjuku-happy-jumpers/

- Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2
Became “Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader”

- Stunt Driver
Made by Climax. Officially cancelled.
https://www.unseen64.net/2008/04/08/stunt-driver-gc-cancelled/

- Tarzan
Became “Disney’s Tarzan Untamed” (US) of “Disney’s Tarzan Freeride” (PAL)

- The Thing
Made by Konami. Never saw a release on the Gamecube. Did release on xbox and PS2.

- Thornado
Made by Factor 5. Officially cancelled
https://www.unseen64.net/2008/04/08/thornado-gc-cancelled/

- Thunder Rally
Made by Retro Studios, so cancelled. Also see Baskell.
https://www.unseen64.net/2008/04/08/thunder-rally-car-battle-gc-retrostudios-cancelled/

- Title Defense Boxing
Made by Climax. Officially cancelled.

- Too Human
Made by Silicon Knights. Cancelled as well.
https://www.unseen64.net/2008/04/09/too-human-gc-cancelled/

- V.I.P.
Made by Ubisoft. Cancelled for Gamecube
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubisoft_Shanghai (V.I.P. is listed as a 2002 release on PS2 and Windows only)

- Wave Race 2
Became “Wave Race: Blue Storm”

- Wide Games Adventure Game
Made by NST. Very hard to Google thanks to its generic name.

- Zelda
Yes, just Zelda. Checking release dates this must have become Windwaker.

Did "After Dark" by Rare become Grabbed by the Ghoulies?

And if I'm not mistaken, Mario 128 actually was the basis for Pikmin?

I assume Rare had a deal with Disney around that time, with Mickeys Speedway being a forgotten about N64 game.
Maybe the deal was off once Rare got bought out?

After Dark is something I'm not sure about, but I'll add thi one to the list as well.

Mario 128 became both the basis for SMG and Pikmin. Some pieces were also used for other games, like Twilight Princess. Not sure how. I still have to look deeper into this.

The Rare-Disney deal possible went off when Rare was bought by Microsoft. Could anyone verify when this happened, so we can put this little puzzle together.

cool pics. i'm having the original magazine before me as i type this.

the magazine is "power unlimited". they were never known for being big nintendo fans, and i can't say their journalism was always very accurate either.

some memorable actions in their history: this is the magazine that gave mario kart (snes) a 6/10, named diddy kong racing worst title of 1998, and gave metal gear solid 2 a whopping 82%. they never reviewed the N64 titles shadow man, resident evil 2, world driver championship, castlevania legacy of darkness and they gave something like f zero X a 6/10. bunch of tossers.

edit: they made a similar list for N64 too. i'm going to see if i can find it :)

they lost me from then on. raiden was "too gay" according to one reviewer. "snakes dies in this game", oracled an other one.

MGS2, one of the absolute best games ever. it left a lasting impression on me in so many ways. and these people mocked it and spread false information to boot. up until then they were funny at times, but from then on i just couldnt take these guys serious anymore.

this magazine was a huge deal for me back then in 2001. i wasn't mature enough yet to ignore opinions from gaming journalists such as these, and they somehow made me lose some of the fun i had when i played these games first.

The writing is terrible, I know that now. It's more about the money than anything else I think. But, the list is interesting nontheless.

On the review part; they gave the CD-i Link game a 92/100 I believe. Something crazy high. But back in the day, as a kid, it was a wonderful magazine.
