Since we've been having fun with top 5 lists, I figured I'd throw another in the mix. Except this time, you only get 3. >:-]

What are your top 3 video game franchises? For example, Metal Gear Solid franchise, or maybe Halo franchise? Keep in mind that the franchise is judge by all of the entries in it and how much you liked them. For Mario, since he has so many, we will divide them up. So Mario will have different franchises such as Mario Party franchise, Smash Bros franchise, Mario Sports franchise, Super Mario franchise, Mario Kart franchise, etc.

So I'll kick it off...

1. Grand Theft Auto
2. Call of Duty
3. Tokyo Extreme Racer

Your turn!! :D
Current 64 Collection: Grey, Jungle, Fire, Ice, Smoke, Watermelon, Grape, Gold, JP Blue/Clear, Daiei Hawks

First off, @Tofujunky87 your new profile pic is making me really really hungry... Also good topic!

If I had to pick three... hmmm... Since this is franchises and not individual games I will go with:

1. Legend of Zelda
2. Pikmin
3. Dragon Age

-ISS / Pro Evolution Soccer

Special mentions to:

So far, GTA seems to be the strongest.

Can't argue with that, Rockstar knows what their doing...

metal gear: still manages to offer brilliant games to this day.
zelda: favorite of the nintendo franchises. ALTTP, ocarina and twilight princess are my personal highlights. wind waker was great, skyward sword was a big letdown to me
duke nukem: what a twisted, politically incorrect franchise. and it frags away. great mindless fun.

Need For Speed

I have not played anything else that I'm so pumped to see release after release. I cant play NFS/RB4 anymore since no next-gen tho but one day when they get cheaper, I'll get 'em.

When you do get the next gen, the new NFS game that just came out is very fun. I enjoyed that they went back to NFS Underground style. The only thing that sucks is its online only so one of these days it will turn into MAG and be worthless. But until then, lots of fun.

-The Legend of Zelda
-Forza
-Call of Duty???

I really am having a tough time deciding on the 3rd choice. It'd either be COD, GTA, Mario, Need for Speed, or Assassin's Creed.

Tofu, I heard a lot of bad things about the new NFS which is a bummer because I was really looking forward to this game. I may have to give it a go though.

Final Fantasy (maybe not some of the more recent installments but who can argue that 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 weren't pretty awesome?)
Grand Theft Auto
The Legend of Zelda

Yeah, I'm pretty satisfied with those three at the top for me.

Sublime, its not without its faults, thats for sure. Its definitely not my favorite in the franchise. The cut scenes are god awful... like slit your wrists awful.

But the racing is fun and the visuals are amazing. If you like customization and modding, you'd really enjoy it. Its basically a grown up version of NFS Underground 2, Most Wanted, or Carbon without the ricey neons and spinners. So if you enjoy modding cars, racing at night, and running from cops (basically street racer stuff) then you'll enjoy it.

I hate that its online only but I bought the game cause I'm a HUGE fan of Rauh-Welt Begriff (RWB) Porsches. Drifting is fun too. GIve it a shot, just don't pay full price. Get it second hand.

Sounds good. I loved Most Wanted and Underground, never finished Carbon. I'll have to check it out. Online only is a bit of a bummer.

1. Super Mario
2. WWE 2K (the series of games that started with WWF Smackdown! on PS1)
3. Mega Man (classic)

Honorable mentions
Sonic the Hedgehog - Happens to hold my favorite game of all time in it, but had too many disappointments to make the top three.
Mega Man X - Same as Sonic. X5 and X6 really didn't do this series any favors. Have yet to play through X7 or X8.
Pokemon (main series) - Even though I generally despise turn-based battle systems (which ultimately kept this series from making the list) nostalgia + the thrill of finding and catching new monsters wins me over enough to deal with it here.
Street Fighter - No real negatives here outside of the first entry (bleh!). Solid series. :yeah:

Its online only in that it requires you to have an internet connection to play it, because other racers drive in your session as well. That being said, I basically 100% completed the game without ever once playing with or against a real opponent, so the online only requirement is really BS. Its basically an offline game that requires internet connection, and you can race with others if you want.

I don't understand it but its fun regardless. I just hate that if/when the servers get axed, its unplayable. As a collector, I like to replay games years later and online only really eliminates that ability unless they release an offline patch (which is unlikely).

We would have to say Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Country and Zelda. (Kirby isn't far behind!) We like the classics. Mario and DK have some great multi-player games!

Here are mine.

1) Mario Kart: All the games are good but Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 64 really stand out as exceptional.

2) Armored Core: The first three games on the original PlayStation are excellent and the early PS2 efforts are good too.

3) Street Fighter: Street Fighter II is often consider the benchmark by which other fighting games are judged. Street Fighter IV took the feel of SF II and modernized it to reinvigorate the fighting game genre.

1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Yeah, the franchise has been abused in recent years and we never got a satisfactory ending to the original story arc, but this was the series that sold me on the Xbox and helped me realize that games could have engrossing, deep storylines, rather than the more simplistic fare I'd been used to prior to that.

2. Little Big Planet: Excepting the disappointing PSP entry, I love this series. It's simple, but there's heart in the games, and a sense of...whimsy?

3. Mass Effect: Epic sci-fi story, great NPC's, getting to captain two amazing starships, consistently improving gameplay mechanics...what's not to like? March is going to be a killer month for me, starting with Breath of the Wild and ending with ME Andromeda.
