Excellent piece Rocky. Totally with you on this one. At least with Sculptor's Cut if it is not plagued with the illusive "Property of Blockbuster" sticker then it is likely to be a fake. Joking aside, I think you make a good point here and as time goes on and these carts become more pricey and sought after there will be no doubt increased pirates entering the market for these and we need to be prepared for this. We also have a duty to make our members aware to mitigate the risk of people being scammed.

Thanks Rocky! A big step in the right direction with this.

IMO, showing this could be even worse as they would try to perfectly duplicate boards.

Bold endeavor! Counterfeits are a threat to any collecting scene; it's disappointing but inevitable that its reached the N64 generation. If you and others here think this work is a helpful way to sniff out fakes, I look forward to your compilation.

There are N64 games, of course, that no one will ever counterfeit for economic reasons. Its hard to think that Madden, QB Club, and some other sports games will ever be of value, or super common games like my beloved SWE1R. You may want to save yourself some time and energy by drawing a line at some resale dollar value. But then again, the completionist mentality is strong in us all :D , so if that's your aim, good luck

If these repro guys can't perfectly replicate a GBA, NES or SNES board 1:1, there's no way they're going to accomplish it for the N64.
you're probably right, but you never know hehe

I'm on board. I do agree with what has been said, but no matter which way you slice it, it's still a righteous effort!
Now might be a good time to get a 3.8 mm Hex bit.

Rocky, I sent you a PM with pictures of Worms Armageddon, Super Bowling, Bomberman Second Attack, and Harvest Moon. Let me know if those pictures work for you. I plan on doing more carts this weekend.

Are there regional differences in the boards? As in, placement of batteries or other technical things?

A big thank you to boomdiers and jonafish for submitting new boards to the repository! We also have our very first confirmation given by jonafish! Worms and Bomberman now have a black star (verified).

Added in a contest you guys might be interested in at the bottom of the 1st post. ;)

Not as far as I am aware. I am pretty sure it was just the cart case but there is only one way to find out I guess. Don't think I have the tool to dismantle a cart.

I'm not sure if this will help or not but I am going to start cataloging the weight of cartridges (in a new topic soon). Perhaps even without opening it we could tell if its a fake or not.

Here or through private messaging is fine!

@Pimpin that would certainly be interesting! I'm curious whether fakes are lighter, heavier, or the same. >_>

@boomdiers Oh yea forgot to tell you that it was hard to see the board since your shadow was on it. Can you re-shoot maybe?

If Sixty Formula don't mind, i'd like to start off by verifying Clay Fighter Sculptor's Cut.

Clay Fighter Sculptor's Cut

chipboard Front

chipboard Back

How is this Rocky?
I posted a picture of the back because it has a blue dot in the upper right corner that was most likely made with a paint marker. I'm not sure how signifigant that is.

I started with this game to share the story that goes with it...
I can 100% verify that this is the real game because i bought it from BLOCKBUSTER Video in 1999.
I woke up one morning back then with a wierd premonition that may have stemmed from my frustration of not winning a Millenium 2000 controller in the latest NP issue. I started to ponder what other items i could be missing out on, and Sculptor's Cut crossed my mind. I went to work that day at County Market and ran into a friend. I told him about this wierd feeling i got about Nintendo items and after i got done with work, we went to BBV. Sitting there in the bargain bin was a boxed version for $15.
I tried to keep my composure as i picked it up and checked out. I still remember one of the clerks giving me the stinkeye the entire time.

I apologize for the late update guys, haven't been as active as late due to finishing up university and all that job related stuff. I also do a lot of Photoshop stuff for these cartridge pictures behind the scenes which can be very time consuming. With that said....HUGE UPDATE!

-Jonafish comes in swinging once again with a whopping 30 game update! We're now at 47/296 N64 games. :n64:

-No64DD verifies the rarest cartridge in the N64 library: Sculptor's Cut! :n64:

Keep em' coming! :mario:
