i have this NES that i bought on a flea market years ago, in pretty good condition and with two controllers. i remember paying 10 euro for it. it worked till one day i got the brown screen going "on and off". so i shelved my NES thinking it was broken. but apparently this is a known problem and is easily fixed. so now my NES sits proudly next to my SNES again, connected to my old CRT. 8)

i dont have games for my NES. i'm planning on buying some good games though. any recommendations? i already know i want that duck shooting game with the light gun, i wanna have a "blast" playing it with my son. :P

other games i'm looking at:
- robocop III
- jurassic park
- the mario series
- zelda
- metroid

i heard shadowgate is pretty cool too?

Action, if you can get your hands on Journey to Silius, by all means. I know it's a pricey one, especially in Europe, but it's a quintessential platformer and the soundtrack is unbelievably great.

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! My high school years right there.

IF you like baseball and NFL Football, Baseball Stars and Super Tecmo Bowl are the best arcade baseball games on any Nintendo system.

Castlevania I and III. I is a must. The controls will infuriate you at times, but it was a precedent setting game in so many ways. CIII is great, too.

Contra. This was one of the first really great games on the NES, and it is still fun to play today . . . man those controls are TIGHT!

Well I don't own many NES games, but I can recommend almost every single one of them. So, leaving out the ones you're already looking at:

- Vegas Dreams - Casino game with optional story-like cutscenes complete with choices that can help or hinder you.

- StarTropics - Possibly my second favorite game on the system. A light-hearted action-adventure game where you use a yo-yo (and other weapons) to defeat enemies in the quest to find your missing uncle. WARNING: BE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU BUY THE SECRET LETTER THAT ORIGINALLY CAME WITH THE GAME IF YOU PLAN TO NOT USE A GUIDE! Luckily, getting a complete used copy of the game (including the letter) is much cheaper than most first party NES games.

- Bionic Commando - A platformer with levels very well made around the grappling hook arm gimmick. Also has a limited stage select and world map teeming with enemy forces.

- Faxanadu - Incredibly tough, but rewarding side scrolling action RPG (that's a mouthful) from Hudson Soft. Derek Alexander from Stop Skeletons from Fighting made me realize that it's like Castlevania II only much better in almost every way.

- Tecmo World Wrestling - If you're into wrestling games, skip anything WWF or WCW had on the system and get this instead. 1P mode has you going for the title (complete with cinematic finishing moves and a play-by-play commentator) and getting some training in between matches to build up your wrestler's strength. The only con I have is that submissions are near worthless against the computer. Sure it will lower their stamina, but they never tap. Ever.

- Strider - Completely different story, levels and objectives from the Arcade/Genesis game, but you still use Cypher to cut through enemies like butter. I only wish they got the wall jumping right. If memory serves, it's only required for one lart, but that one part had me tearing out what was left of my head hair.

- Gargoyle's Quest II: The Demon Darkness - My favorite Capcom game for the system that isn't a Mega Man game. Gargoyle's Quest II just might be Capcom's best example of excellent levels designed around Firebrand's abilities. The catch? That price tag! Best to download this one off of the Wii U's Virtual Console if you're not willing to throw down $80+ for a used copy.

- Mega Man 1-6 - Some might be able to break down why one game is worth getting over the other, but I love all six of 'em almost equally! Get whichever you can find the cheapest or just snatch up the Anniversary/Legacy Collection and have the time of your life!

Special dishonorable mention goes to Super Mario Bros. 2/The Lost Levels (not the one with the vegetables). It was originally released in Japan only, but got re-released in the states on different platforms. Steer as far away from that game as possible. It's the only main Super Mario game I despise.

That dude
A really cheap multiplayer game that I always enjoyed with a friend is Super Spike Beach Volleyball. SM3 of course, Marble Madness is fun and will drive you crazy, Ninja Gaiden if you like to pull your hair out, Zelda, umm I'll have to look and get back to you for some more.
