Despite being an avid gamer with tons of consoles and hundreds of games I can't say I'm actually very good at games as a whole. These are few highlights though: Beating WWF Attitude (N64) and WWE Day of Reckoning 1 & 2 on the hardest difficulty settings. In particular I remember beating Kurt Angle in a submission match during career mode on one of the DoR games (second one I think. That was a very tense session as Angle reverses and counters 90%+ of your offense and you can only keep submission moves on for a second at that difficulty. When I beat him I may have cheered quite loudly. Getting a good enough time on Toad's Turnpike (Mario Kart 64) to get in the top 5 times in N64 Magazine's high score league... well... I would had they not closed it the month I did it... irritating... Getting fired after ONE game (a preseason friendly) on Premier Manager 64... despite winning the match. Okay, it was a glitch but it still amused me

Strange thing is now though, when I go back and play Attitude I'm not very good at it. Back in the days before No Mercy came out though I pretty much played Attitude constantly. |

I think the perception of stinking at games we used to dominate is mostly because we forget that most games are actually pretty hard and it took a lot of work to beat them initially. You have to learn patterns and react with the reflexes of a jedi (which, granted, becomes harder with age). But through trial and error, you can anticipate, which then helps the reflexes tremendously, be they young or old reflexes.

This is true. Plus gaming conventions change which makes it difficult to adapt back to old habits. WWF Attitude plays more like a fighting game than a wrestling game looking back with an emphasis on memorising button combinations specific to a character. Since Acclaim stopped making wrestling games that style has disappeared to my knowledge. |
