Game systems that mean the most to you?

I was thinking on this today, and narrowed it down to four without too much trouble, actually.

Going in ascending order:

PS3: So many amazing experiences on this system. Uncharted trilogy, Killzone 2, the LittleBigPlanet series, Destiny...definitely some of the most epic moments I'd ever had in gaming. Diverse library, good feature set, I may have paid $499 for it but I've never regretted doing that.

3DS: Ocarina of Time? Experienced it here. Luigi's Mansion? Same. First Fire Emblem games? Here. Add in great games like 3D Land, the 3D Sega remakes...I will forever have very fond memories of the 3DS.

N64: I'm not just saying this because I'm here. This was the first system I had when I was old enough to really appreciate it. I do wish I'd had more of the 'key' games for it BITD, but I was young and we weren't as well off at the time, so even having a game console was something to appreciate. I think if I had, I would have put this as #1.

Xbox: Prior to this, I enjoyed playing games, yes, but I wasn't super...dedicated? The Xbox changed that, even if I didn't get into it until late 2004. Knights of the Old Republic, Halo, Mercenaries, Republic Commando. All that and more got me really into gaming, and it's been a march forward ever since.

So, what are yours?

n64 hands down, it was my teenage years. I could do a wall-long text but it wouldn't do justice enough.

ps3 had the most hours spent on a console ever by me tho, thanks Guitar Hero for that, still rocking after 10 years.

snes was our first console, while I don't have the original anymore, I picked one for cheap and felt good to have it back.

I'll with 3 picks as well;

3. Gameboy Advance
This little fella might not have been my first handheld (that was a GB Pocket), but this one did get the most love. I love how the original GBA felt, with the wide body. I love how it is compatible with a games I already owned for the Pocket and Color. I just felt right. So much, I took it on a 14-hour flight to China for vacation and played most of it on the GBA.

2. WiiU
Yes, the WiiU. Why you ask? Just as before, it feels right. I adore the seperate screen on the gamepad, so one can play while someone else can watch TV. It's almost like a HD-handheld to me, since I rarely play in on the TV. It has a small set of games for it, but there are a lot of great titlea. For the "nostalgia"; it's the first system I shared and bought games for, for a person Iove. It's a little something special.

1. Gamecube
For the obvious reason it was my child-owned console. But it also is a little reminder of how great childhood was and how well everyone (especially my grandmother) cared for me when I was over there. And as a bonus; I played it back then, with people I still spreak to today. Playing Mario Kart with my then best friend and his lil' sister (now my brother in law and girlfriend). And yes, I still kick there *** in Mario Kart after all those years.

Gamecube, despite the fact that I don't own one anymore and use a backwards compatible Wii for my Gamecube needs now. Although I had played games and owned gaming systems before the Gamecube, I feel like it was the point where I really started getting more into gaming and games started to impress me even more and left more of an impact on me. I didn't have heaps of games for it since where I lived there wasn't a single store that stocked Gamecube games, so I had to order games online or wait until I went on a trip somewhere else with better game stores, but the amount of mileage I got out of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Kirby Air Ride and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door alone was insane, and I still enjoy of those games to this day (even SA2 despite it being pretty dated now). Also, the amount of awesome multiplayer games it had was fantastic and I remember spending hours with friends in Kirby Air Ride, Mario Party and Melee. Lots of my best friends back then were made through playing Gamecube games. That's not even scratching the surface of all the Gamecube's great games that I love though, as there's plenty more that I discovered later and also enjoyed greatly, such as Pikmin, Tales of Symphonia and Metroid Prime (although I vastly prefer Prime Trilogy's controls).

Other than that, I tend to have a fondness for the retro consoles I end up getting over consoles I buy new. The Nintendo 64 was pretty special since it was the first out of print console I ever bought. Then shortly afterwards I got a Master System, which I remember also thinking was awesome because it was even older and more forgotten than the N64, and unlike the N64 where I had friends who owned the system that I got to play it with, no one owned a Master System so this was my first time ever experiencing it. There was a similar feeling when I got my SEGA Saturn too. A more recent console, but even more forgotten and rare than the Master System, and there was something really exciting about how it introduced me into the world of importing video games. Still, out of all of them, the N64 is probably still at the top just for having the best library in my eyes, with plenty of games I've replayed again and again and have memorized almost entirely (Banjo Kazooie may be the game I have the most well memorized on any system, I can instantly remember every level and how to get every Jiggy in all of them). Although I do absolutely adore NiGHTS into dreams on the Saturn. Heck, there's a ton of underrated gems on that console.

Decent thread.

Of course I had exposure to a lot of consoles growing up, either through friends or what we had in our family. I will go chronologically. I too will limit to the three key stages.

-Sega Megadrive was our first video game console. We bought this second hand towards the end of the MD's life and it did indeed bring a lot of fun and joy.

-Nintendo 64 - simply the best. Our first ever console from new. What got me into enjoying playing games with friends and having that competitive instinct on Goldeneye and Mario Kart etc. So many fond memories of this era.

-PS2 - amazing the games that came out and took gaming to a whole new level. Football games in better quality and crispness and the likes of GTA taking 3D world to a whole new level and as an upcoming teenager, was a great outlet for any anger and or stress.

Game systems that mean the most to me, that's a tough one. I guess this picture says more than words.

However, my current console of choice is probably the original backwards compatible Wii because it does so many things so well. I love being able to play games from a multitude of generations on such a small non-obtrusive device. The fact that the Wii is also compatible with GameCube controllers and the fact that Nintendo is again manufacturing those controllers is another huge plus for me. Yeah, GameCube software support, an incredible Virtual Console and WiiWare library and a small form factor has the OG Wii high on my list of influential consoles. I still play mine almost daily which is impressive considering I own a PlayStation 4 too.

I love my NES. So many great memories of wanting one, doing chores for what felt like ever until I saved up half the money. Then watching mom play and beat Super Mario Bros, and Dad play Punch-Out and kick my butt and laugh in Ice Hockey.

But N64 is definitely my favorite. That memory of Mom beating Super Mario Bros. when I never could had stuck in my head for years, until I was 14 years old and beat Super Mario 64 before she did. It was the first time I ever felt "good" at games. And I could beat Dad most of the time when we would "Cruise the USA".

It brought friends together for GoldenEye tournaments and endless nights of Mario Kart. And the hours and hours I poured into that system, it just represents a pretty significant chunk of what I spent my time doing, and feels like part of who I am because of it.

N64 is my number one because it is the first console that got me REALLY into gaming (I was born in 1993 so I was too little to really get enthusiastic with my snes)

Gamecube is my #2 because while the N64 sparked my love of games the gamecube is where I really got to dive in and explore a wide range of games.

Besides that I really enjoy my WiiU but I feel it never got the love it deserved and the rest of my consoles are okay but nothing of exceptional note. Nowadays I mostly play on PC and feel that is the platform that has the most going for it nowadays due to the growing and innovative indie scene that is present.

Easily in order, N64, Gamecube and PC if that counts.

And PC is almost entirely based on just a few game from that era, Unreal Tournament and Red Alert 2.
And 3D Movie Maker of you count that as a "game".

Think I need to throw the C64 into my list too, not as high as the other too but probably the first system I truely played games on and brought games for. Don't get much time to play on it anymore as loading games can take so long but still great.

That dude
Sega Genesis, N64, SNES, and PS2. Sega because it was the first console I was passionate about. I even had Sega CD and 32X. N64 because even to this day I still desire to play it. SNES because of A Link to the Past. PS2 because it got me in to more serious gaming and because of Gran Turismo 3.

Really interesting to read the emotional attachments to these devices for me its:

1. N64: Nostalgia, and as previously gone through I was old enough to enjoy the games and loved playing with friends/family :D
2. Sega Mega Drive: IMO this console was way more popular than Nintendo in the UK, Sega ruled but I was too young to really get into it.
3. Xbox: It was between Xbox and PS2 but for me I preferred the original xbox, I felt it had superior visuals and Halo/Halo 2 was just...
