The word quagmire comes to mind when i think about this turn of events.

Technically, if this is their plan to not allow anyone to own them, couldn't they at least make them playable in kiosks??
The current gen kiosks are a ghost town everytime i walk in to a store, so how could it hurt?

So apparently the thing was Walmart put the preorders up prematurely or something stupid like that?

Maybe once we get to an n64 mini I'll be excited again (and maybe not as many people will want it without goldeneye) but all this drama! :o

Yes. It's a weak cover story.
I know when i'm being lied to.

These consoles would be perfect for kiosks! I miss the days when things were done normally.

Target, GameStop, Best Buy, and Amazon are also already sold out.

The funny thing is my SNES appears to have died, but given the ridiculousness of this all I'll just buy another real unit sometime.

got the news that it wont be available in Quebec due to stupid !&%?!&*%!?%!?&*%! laws requiring the box to have French language, which who the hell care about that.

So, if anyone has a good heart and is willing to help, please PM me ! i'm desperate.

My local Gamestop called me and said get here and preorder one before its too late. She wouldnt hold it, and i could only get 1.

I show up and she tells me it's gone! I almost lost it!!!

Ironically, i did. I have my hands full yet nothing in them. This will be the 5th SNES Classic i've hand my hands on so far, only to have it taken away.
This is a nightmare!

Same here in England. I had one in my basket on Game and the website just crashed on checkout (on pre-order entry date). I just gave up after that. I am not overly bothered if I get one or not. Just like the Jea mini, if I could get a new one at retail price, I will buy it. I am not paying extortionate prices to line the pockets of the flippers / scalpers out there.

Hopefully, Nintendo supply a few more of these and we will still have chance to pick one up!

It's both amazing and incredibly stupid that being able to successfully place a pre-order for a Nintendo product feels like winning the lottery. :nope:

I was able to get a preorder in with Walmart, during the (literally!) 30 seconds they were in stock. OOS immediately afterwards. Saw Target opened up preorders and was texting a friend to let 'em know, and they were OOS before I could even get halfway through the text. Less than a single minute of availability for both sites.

These purchasing bots are really becoming a serious problem. <_<
Now Playing: Clash Royale (mobile), Gravity Rush 2, Rayman Legends, Project CARS, Uncharted 4 Survival Mode ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

I matter fact that I scored a SNES Mini classic. Here's a little story. 2 months ago (Jun 27 2017) I was just going through the day and was in bathroom and checked my phone out I saw a notification from EBGames that Snes classic mini was available now for pre-order, so I was like omg so I quickly pre-ordered it and was scrolling through website and saw Atari flashback 8 hd and i might as well get it since never had one in the back and would be a classic to play to. I don't know why au/nz get the preorder online first :-/ maybe ebgames and jbhifi are good retailers and today Nintendo announced the new 3ds xl snes classic edition and got one aswell cause It looks totally cool in snes form.

Nintendo Exec Comments On SNES Classic Supply
Reggie Fils-Aime

Nintendo "dramatically increased" production for SNES Classic stock.
If Nintendo triples production and shipments of the SNES Classic, that means all of North America could get as many as... THIRTY units!! :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

X_D

Zero multiplied by a million is still zero.

I tell you, Reggie's statement today about the Switch having multiple supply chain problems does not exactly make Nintendo look competent . . . and is certainly is not a source of optimism for those in the market for an SNES mini.

I have zero faith in Nintendo at this point. If they really wanted to handle the SNES Mini situation properly they'd make units readily available directly from Nintendo's online store to everybody who wants one. That's the best way to cut out the greedy scalpers that have become a harsh reality in these crazy times.

I'm just sitting back and will watch the chaos. I got lucky and found an NES Classic on the shelf at Wal-Mart weeks after release. We'll see if it's meant to be this time around.

Hopefully a step in the right direction:

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/09/nintendo_is_resurrecting_the_nes_classic_mini_and_increasing_snes_classic_inventory

I believe there's room for Nintendo to cater to both the forward thinkers who always buy the newest system and games and retro gamers who just want to relive the glory days. Even if this means no switch vc necessarily.

Attempting to create future collector's items by artificially manipulating supply is rarely a good marketing strategy. It's much better to allow your products to become collectible organically. Thank God Nintendo is finally starting to realize that.

Also, any action that disincentives scalping ultimately serves the greater good of video gaming as a hobby. Marketing your products with the exclusivity of Faberge Eggs might work for Ferrari, but it certainly isn't the way to go for a video game company when you consider that having a large installed userbase is paramount to success. Look at the PlayStation 4 as an example, you can walk in to any store and easily buy one which undoubtedly has led to Sony selling over 60 million of them since 2013. :o

I know I know I know people think Nintendo loves the scarcity approach. I will argue that was not the intent with the NES mini and certainly not the Switch. I think Nintendo is incredibly risk adverse....it does not want a bunch of dead stock and unsold units. That to them is total failure. The Switch has been scarce due to underestimating the demand and supply chain problems (neither of which does not exactly reflect well on Nintendo). They did not know what they had with the NES mini, but even if they had, the company's energies were clearly behind getting the Switch to market as soon after the missed winter holidays. Even the Amiibo (remember them) were in short supply due to an ill-timed strike at a key US port that serves as a portal for Eastern goods, not a scarcity marketing plan.

Grizz is certainly right about user base being the #1 goal of console makers. And we know Nintendo learned that lesson with the Wii U experience. GREAT console + tiny install base equals zero AAA-third party support.

Does any of that mean we'll all have an opportunity to buy the SNES mini by the holidays this year? I think so, but who really knows.....
