SNES Mini; What games would you include?

This sounds like very good news, and you guys are making great points.
I know what i heard from Gamescom when it comes to exact numbers, and you know where i heard it from. It all seems like a roundabout way of avoiding saying that they are only doubling the production of what the NES Classic had.
Now, this made sense until the announcement of producing more NES Classics next year...
Bdr

I think Nintendo is incredibly risk adverse....it does not want a bunch of dead stock and unsold units.

I agree Bdr, Nintendo doesn't want their product sitting on the shelf so much, that it can't even make it to the shelf!

I know that i still now have to camp out just for 1 unit. Should be interesting.

So I mustered up the ambition to do the whole waking up early to wait in line before store-opening...

Posted Image

My local Target had about 50+ units this morning, and only about 35-ish people waiting in line when the doors opened... so take from that what you may.
(All 24hr Walmarts in the area had about 20-30 units, and were all already spoken for by about 9:30pm last night, by people waiting in-store.)

I'm happy though... a nice duo so far... ;)

(I really dig how they're sticking to the original packaging/box-art design as the original consoles.) :yeah:

Nice, Floorcat! I dig also how faithful they've been with the packaging and marketing too. It's a fun throwback.

I woke up today to find out that a friend of mine waited in line last night and got one for me. I still have to pay for it, haha. But I'm ok with that!

Now that Nintendo seems to be getting their act together and making them more available I wouldn't mind picking one or both classic systems up later. Right now though I guess I'm gonna have to settle for the 2 Pokemon Stadium games i just bought off ebay :)

That's awesome! I did the same thing. I got one at midnight release at a Walmart. I was second to the last one. They only had 16. The other I got this morning at Bestbuy. My friend is coming over tonight for it.

So are those of you who got the SNES Classic Edition satisfied? What game did you start playing first? How do the controllers feel?

thats the only reason why I would buy a SNES Mini. this game alone is worth more than the console itself.

With current values, buying the hardware + the included games would be about $775-$800 from what I saw.

First game I played was Donkey Kong Country. So good. I want to dive into something like Secret of Mana, or finally beat FFIII. Just gotta make the time.

The controller at first impression feels a little "rougher" than I remember. But I haven't compared it to my actual SNES controller yet. But I think for sure it doesn't feel quite exactly the same, where as the NES Classic controller was darn near identical.

"Rougher"? Build quality not as good as the original?

Same quality, just a slightly different texture in my opinion.
I'd compare it to how the original SNES and the original "mini" SNES controllers have a slightly different feel.
It's hard to explain.

Agreed. Build quality is exactly what you expect from Nintendo. I don't know it's hard to explain. Just when I first picked it up, my immediate thought was, "Oh this feels different. Not quite what I expected."

So I've held an SNES controller many many times... but after a while it's hard to separate out the nostalgia, from what was real when the system was new. My SNES controllers are pretty well loved, and I know to some extent they are worn. But over all, even in the non wear areas, the original controllers just feel... smoother than the texture of the SNES mini controllers.

I tried to get some pictures. The original SNES controller is the one that is just a bit... shinier, in these pictures.

After about an hour or so play time with the SNES Mini so far, I'll say I don't mind it at all. It's a little gripper, not that I really ever thought of the SNES as a controller that was ever slipping out of my hands.

It's up for debate whether this was the day one texture for Super Nintendo Controllers back in 1991. I really don't think so though. Even still it's not really a nit to pick. Just a tiny observation.

I'd like a comparison between the Star Fox 2 that's included on the SNES Mini and the ROM that's been floating around for years.

The changes are small from what I know of. I know you can no longer switch between first and third person modes on the fly, it has to be done in a menu.

No enhancements that I've noticed.

I love "pixel perfect" mode on the N3DS SNES games, and also on the NES Classic games. But for the size of my screen and how close you have to sit, it's TOO jaggy for me. I prefer the CRT filter that softens the image quite a bit.

I haven't really noticed any major lag. Night and day compared to the Wii U Virtual Console which had some real issues with that.

My problem is I'm almost overwhelmed with choice. I sit down and play a game for maybe 20 minutes, then I start wanting to switch to another game. Dunno how I'll ever finish all these great RPGs!

Do you think these systems will become more readily available? I really think so. There were twice as many available at launch here locally (which granted was like 18), but I also notice the prices in the scalper market haven't been able to maintain NES Classic levels. Not to say shelves will be overflowing, but at least to have a legit opportunity to find them in the store for those that are persistent.

Star Fox 2 compared to the beta is a much harder game. The difficulty has upped quite a lot and you really need to know everything you can do with the Arwing to even possibly get a chance to finish the game. More jingles (one per rank, even), and overall a more polished game.
