Grizzmeister, this is for you. Were you able to get the closed beta? If you grew up with the N64 like I did, chances are you also tuned in to Toonami at least once, particularly its flagship anime Dragon Ball Z. I personally liked other shows on the block better but DBZ was still a major part of my childhood. And now we're getting this new game for current gen consoles that is the closest thing to playing an episode of the tv show so far. The gameplay is 3 on 3 tag team fighting similar to Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and 3. Since MvC2 is one of my favorite non-Nintendo games ever that's a huge plus for me. The team behind the game is Arc System Works, notable for the Guilty Gear and Blazblue series, so they know how to make a solid fighting game and they have perfected a cel-shaded graphical style that makes a 3D model look like it was drawn by hand. It's absolutely gorgeous in-game. Here's the roster we know of so far, I'll update as more details come; they seem to be focusing on mainly the classic DBZ gang with a little bit of the new Dragon Ball Super anime thrown in but it's not totally jarring if you remember the show from the late 90s/early 2000s: Goku (Super Saiyan) Vegeta (Super Saiyan) Gohan (Super Saiyan) Frieza Cell Majin Buu Future Trunks Piccolo Krillin Android 18 (with Android 17) Android 16 Goku (Super Saiyan Blue) Vegeta (Super Saiyan Blue) Yamcha Tien (with Chiaotzu) Android 21 (Original Character made specifically for this game) Nappa Captain Ginyu (with Ginyu Force) Adult Gohan Gotenks Kid Buu Beerus Hit Goku Black (with Zamasu) Are you excited for this game? Have you seen any of the amazing footage? Discuss

I'm not bothering with the beta because I already know I'm going to buy Dragon Ball FighterZ at launch for my PS4. The game looks crazy fun in all the videos I've seen so far!

I've got some teams planned out: I wanna try a team of Goku, Yamcha and Krillin (Turtle School team) and Piccolo, Vegeta, and Android 18 (Redemption Arc team) |

2 new characters announced - Nappa and Captain Ginyu. Ginyu looks especially interesting to me because he summons the rest of the Ginyu Force for a lot of his specials and uses the body swap technique. |

Hey ItalianBaptist, just out of curiosity, are you a Guilty Gear fan? I'm just wondering if you played Guilty Gear XX Accent Core on the Wii and became a fan of developer Arc System's fighting games. I've never played an ArcSys game myself but on another forum I frequent regulars there swear by the company. That's partially why I'm so enthusiastic about Dragon Ball FighterZ since I'm not really a fan of anime. |

I’ve never owned a guilty gear game, but I tried Xrd one night at Xanadu. The controls take a little getting used to - they’re not your light punch, heavy punch like street fighter. FighterZ seems to be following suit but apparently Xrd also has the best tutorial in a fighting game ever. Plus the graphics are absolutely gorgeous. I definitely think it’s in good hands

Dragon Ball FighterZ is scheduled to release in February 2018 for the PC, PS4 and XB1 but not for the Switch. I wonder why?

3 new characters were announced recently, and they’re from the point in the show where I stopped watching. Gotenks drove me crazy, never really cared for any of the Buu forms besides the first, and having Teen Gohan and Adult Gohan together in the same game has always been jarring for me. All this and the fact that the Xbox One deal fell through (my friend didn’t get the X from his company to so he’s keeping his old one) means it’s gonna take a lot for me to commit to purchasing this game for myself. I’ll still try to mooch off my friends though

The rumors are looking good for it. The switch is actually looking to be a strong fighting game console

Haven't updated in a while. We're getting characters from Dragon Ball Super now. Namely Beerus, Hit, and Goku Black. Not a big fan of Super at all but these three characters are some of the best to come from it. Really hoping for some original Dragon Ball representation now, like Kid Goku with the Flying Nimbus and the Power Pole. |

I’m glad the gameplay is getting the recognition it deserves because it looks awesome. I wish the roster were bigger but I definitely like that they took a lot of time making each of the characters pretty unique. Been watching a lot of twitch streams and really liking Hit and Goku Black’s playstyle. I’m thinking of pairing them with one of the “eternal underdogs” - either Yamcha, Nappa or Captain Ginyu - when I do get the chance to play. Is it just me or do games nowadays have a nasty habit of revealing their entire roster before the games actually come out? I had the same problem with Smash for Wii U and it made unlocking what few characters there were kinda pale in comparison. Looking forward to what dlc could bring though

I've actually talked myself out of buying Dragon Ball FighterZ right now for several reason. First, there's the fact that I know absolutely nothing about the characters having never seen even a single episode of the anime. Second, my video game collection is starting to move too heavily towards the fighting game genre. Lastly, Street Fighter V is much improved since the recent update so I want to master my combos in it before I learn new systems in an other fighting game. Dragon Ball FighterZ does look fantastic, though, so I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually. Maybe when it goes on sale as I've gotten to the point that I hate to spend more than $40 on a game. |

I hope I didn’t rag too much on the game that it was a dissuading factor. I’m trying to find a good balance of being critical without being too negative. The game looks great but I can’t justify buying a whole new system to purchase it. Plus, it’s finally hitting me that those online servers aren’t gonna be around forever. I know every game has a shelf life - moth and rust doth corrupt, after all - but it’s been kinda sad watching the Wii, Wii U, etc die an artificial death.... |

Dragon Ball FighterZ seems like a competent and enjoyable fighting game and I'm sure it'll introduce lots of new players to the genre, but I'm actually a little more hyped for SoulCaliber VI since I have so much nostalgia for the franchise. The original SoulBlade was my most played PSX game up until I became hopelessly addicted to the first generation Armored Core titles. |

The first wave of DLC hits today - Broly and Bardock. Based on what I've seen, heard and read so far, Broly seems to be a generic big bruiser with not a lot of combo potential; while that works well in the real world it's had mixed results in fighting games. I'm hearing a lot better things about Bardock though, like he may give Goku Black a run for his money. For those not in the know, he's one of the more "overused" characters because of how good he is. |
