N64 and fog

I wouldn't say it was lazy programming, just inexperience with the system. Later games, like OOT and Banjo-Kazooie, had noticeably less fog as a result of experience with the system. Now-a-days, almost everything is coded the same, I think, making it easier for everyone on all systems. That's why we're getting ports for Switch that are graphically what you'd expect as if was designed for the system.
