I mentioned this in the Forum Suggestions but I thought it might be better here. I really like the Discord chat app but I haven’t found a way to make it practical because most of the servers i’ve joined have been on the crazy side. The thing is, though, I think we have a great community committed to keeping things mature and respectful. To me, a chat server would be great to keep in touch with you guys while still not replacing the forum itself. There are strengths and weaknesses to each and I can’t see anything like Game of the Month working via chat for example. I’m aware of the rule of not putting N64 Forever’s name on something that doesn’t have its stamp of approval, so it wouldn’t have to necessarily be official but i’d be willing to work with the admins on something. Right now though I want to see if there would be actual interest. So tell me... 1) Do you have a Discord account? If so, how often do you use it? Is it a regular way to keep in touch with your gamer buddies? 2) Would a Discord server with similar rules and culture to these forums be something you would be interested in? |

I think a chat option would be nice and also important that it's not replacing the forum.I have never heard of Discord before. I would try it |

I use Discord quite regularly... I'm a mod for the Rock Band discord servers so kind have to be active, I like the idea but yeah, would require some serious planning, would be useful for gauging quick game opinions and what not |

Shameless plug: I actually admin a Discord game collecting group that’s active enough while being largely drama free. I can share a link if it’s okay with the mods. |

I don't have a Discord account, and I've never used it. Discord is voice chat right? Not to interested personally if so. I assume there's a text chat option too, but if it's like the old chatrooms of yore after about 3 times of logging in with nobody home, I'm probably going to start checking less and less. Obviously I need to learn more about how it works. |

There's a voice chat option, but for me at least it's primarily text chat. I'm usually able to find someone to chat with, but as I mentioned earlier the culture of this board is pretty different from most gaming communities I find myself in. I prefer it here (I'm learning that I shouldn't be glued to the screen waiting for people to respond because we actually have lives apart from a gaming obsession which is nice), but I'm not sure how it would translate to a chat room environment hence why I'm seeing if people are interested first. |

I cannot speak on behalf of the staff until we review together, but I can tell you that Zetaboards has a chat option for this site, but we have elected not to implement it. Photobucket-gate notwithstanding, our site is first and foremost a repository and reference for N64 information. A chat-which is so temporary and fleeting in nature--does not further that goal. Second, there was a question regarding moderation (as noted above) and third, the notion of diverting posts was problematic. I know, personally, I'm way behind the game in social media, but I have an instagram account and it has done nothing to change my view about how incongruous such platforms are to our goals here. Everything is fleeting it seems, and so little thought is put into many postings perhaps for that reason. I know all of this sounds a little sour and it is really not meant to dissuade you. But I do think it fairly presents my concerns. |

I've never used discord. If there was one I don't think my conversations would be incongruos, I could get great N64 conversations out of a lot of members here without the constraints of textboxs and thread topics. |

I've been using Discord for a few months, mainly for contact with my Garry's Mod friends and a few other people I've met in online games, but nothing too comprehensive. It does allow for voice chat but I've actually found that facet of it to be rarely useful for me as GMod has it's own in-game voice option. I've only ever used the text chat. Therefore, from my point of view, it's just another way to chat back and forth with a few people that I chat with in-game. I'm not sure how a Discord for the server would go over, though. I'll let the more forum-dedicated members pitch in there. |

I do get where you’re coming from. I think a chat (sponsored by y’all or not) would definitely serve a different purpose than what we have here, which is my primary concern because I don’t want to take away from what we have right now. The Discord would be an accompaniment to increase the social aspect of what we have here; like just to have friendly discussions about what we’re up to, what games we’re playing, etc. I’m with you that the information dumps are better suited to something more permanent like these forums. Even apart from informational things there are definitely aspects like the hurt/heals or Game of the Month that just couldn’t be done on Discord. |

there's all kind of otehr platform already in place to socialized a bit with those who we want. adding another layer would ditch this forum once more. I'm gonna be honest, I do much of my talking via twitter DM with No64DD but end up sharing what we find here. I get BDR point and it's quite understandable, he dont want to loose more than what it is right now. |
