Expect my visit when the darkness comes. The night I think is best for hiding all
The first thing Vlad became aware of was the heat. It filled the air to an almost stiffling degree. Slowly he opened his eyes. While his bionic eye was able to adjust without difficulty his biological eye was immediately blinded by the bright light and he quickly closed it again with a groan.

He was about to sit up when he remembered the bullet wound in his back. To his surprise it didn't hurt so much as itch. Looking down he realized that his shirt had been removed. He glanced momentarily at his body with its jagged network of scars and tentatively reached back with his good arm. His fingers gently probed the wound sight and to his surprise he felt stitches.

Swinging his legs of the side of the bed he tugged at his beard in thought.

"Strange... Last thing I remember was falling from the ship.... I should be dead but last I checked Hell did not have beds nor did demons tend to wounds..."

Julia's golden hair was still wrapped around his wrist and he ran his hand across it feeling its smoothness.

"If I am still among the living... where am I and how did I get here?"

It was around noontime when Emma decided to visit the village market to buy some fresh fruits. She had removed the lion hood that covered her head all this time and allowed everyone see the mane of earthy golden hair underneath. When she returned to the clay hub that housed the injured man, who had fell from the sky, she did not expect to see him already awake.

Emma remembered the incident of how the man came to . She had been flying along with Amado, her Fionan companion, when they saw the man falling down to his doom. Emma only saw him in the dark because of the silhouette the man casted on the full moon that night. She had to practically beg the Fionan to save the man. Luckily for the man, Amado was strong enough to catch the falling person and carry both Emma and the man safely to the ground. Even then, the Fionan complained. It was quite an adventure dragging the man through the savanna to find a resting spot.

"Oh, you're awake!" she gleefully bounced over to his bedside, dropping the basket of fruits to the ground.

"You were hurt really bad, mister!" Emma said, in a chidlish scolding manner. Honestly she didn't know whether or not the man's wounds were fatal or not, but any sight of blood always made her think of death.

"What did you get yourself into?!" she pouted, on her tippy toes now as she brought her face closer to his. The curious little lion was going to shower the man with questions, whether he liked it or not.

Expect my visit when the darkness comes. The night I think is best for hiding all
Vladimir was still attempting to overcome his combined feelings of vertigo and bewilderment when the door to his room suddenly burst open and to his utter shock and amazement what appeared to be a small lion bound into the room.

The Cossack's mouth dropped open in surprise and his wrist blade extended on instinct. Quickly he tried to leap to his feet to ward off what he was certain was an attack from a wild animal. Unfortunately he was much weaker than anticipated and was rewarded for his efforts by blacking out and collapsing back onto the bed. His head struck the wall and he let out a stream of curses that would have made a Luxarian whore blush.

Groaning he rolled over to see that what he had first thought to be a lion was actually a small girl. Blinking in surprise he sat up once more rubbing his head and stared in open amazement at the little woman who stood before him.

He was a coarse man used to horror and death but he could not help but smile at her appearance. She had large auburn eyes and beautiful mane of golden hair that rivaled Julia's in splendor. Those features alone would have endeered her to even the most vicious of pirate but the fact that she was dressed in a lion costume pushed the cuteness to a new level.

Before he could say anything the girl opened her mouth and questions bubbled out of her like the waters of a babbling brook.

It was without the strangest turn of events Vlad could ever have imagined and he smiled broadly at the girl and though he showed his teeth, this grin was not unkind.

He was about to answer when she cut him off with another stream of questions and drawing close peered up into his face her eyes full of curiosity. He smiled and patted her on the head with some affection.

"I was battling fierce and evil pirates young miss. I snuck aboard their ship and challenged the captain to a duel! We battled for a time but then her crew found and shot me. Not wanting to die at their hands I jumped through a window but not before claiming my prize."

Smiling he hefted the shock of hair he had taken from Julia. He did not know why he was being so honest with the child having only just met her but he saw no harm in it all the same.

His voice grew quiet as he continued,

"I remember falling and then everything went black...." pausing he looked down at the girl

"Am I dead?....is...is this the afterlife... are you an angel child?"

((Hey no problem, just glad to be rping with ya!))

It didn't take much to amuse the little lion girl. She laughed heartily when the man struck the wall with his head in an attempt to leap out of bed, as if the scene was straight out of a comedic play. As the tall stranger weaved his heroic tales of epic proportions, speaking of battling villainous pirates in the skies as well as dueling the captain of the ship, the little girl became all starry-eyed.

"No silly!" Emma giggled at the thought of her being an angel, her cheeks turning scarlet. No one had ever said that to her, from what she could have recalled.

"You were falling, yes! You were lucky that we were---" Emma stopped herself, remembering that not man knew about Amado's ability to fly. He specifically told her not to reveal this fact to anyone. Trying to contain her excitement, Emma quickly thought of a reason as to how they picked up the stranger, "You fell into the sea at night! You were lucky that we saw you falling...I couldn't swim to save you, but my friend saved you! You should thank him!"

((Oh wow I'm so sorry, this post got hidden by the others I didn't realize you had replied!))

His story had had an effect on the girl and Vlad could not help but smile once more at her expression of pure wonder. Her answer to his question about being in the afterlife both assured and confused him at the same time. While he was pleased to still be among the living he was not sure how he had survived.

From what the girl told him he had fallen into the sea. The only problem was that with the height he had fallen from, hitting the water would have been the same as smashing against a rock cliff face. That and what were the chances that someone had been out in the middle of the ocean, seen him fall and made it to his unconscious body before he had sank beneath the waves.

It was all very suspicious and bizzare and even though the child seemed to be hiding something the Cossack was not about to interrogate a child. He was alive and that was all that mattered for the moment. At the mention of a friend Vlad sat up straighter,

"Oh are you talking about your father? Was he the one who saved me child?"

He rubbed his beard thoughtfully,

"You are right I would very much like to meet him and thank him for saving my life, is he around?"

(ooc: oh no it's my fault too...i'll try to get on more often ><..mako said he'd join the rp later right? their meeting will be fun xD)

Amado? Her father? Emma took a moment to connect the two, only to burst into laughter.

"No no no, silly! Amado's not my father! He's more like...a big...brother! Yeah! He's more like a big brother!...Emma doesn't have a father anymore..." her excitement had died off in the end, trailing to silence and a hint of sadness.

"But it's okay because Amado's around now. Amado says he'll help Emma's problems go away, she only needs to be a good little lion," she said, beaming again as she bounced up and down.

"Say...do you have a name, mister? And can you stand? Can you walk? We can go out to the market! Maybe you could use the exercise, you know?" Emma had just returned from the market, but she wouldn't mind venturing out there again. There were still many strange Luxarian items on display that she wanted to see, but the merchants had shooed her away because she looked like she wasn't really going to buy anything. They probably wouldn't have done that if she had her gigantic new friend around, however...

Vlad regretted asking about the child's parents only because of the look of sadness that crossed her face after he posed the question. While she quickly bounced back and returned to her usual bubbliness the sorrow in her eyes was enough to break the Cossack's heart.

So the child is alone except for this mysterious guardian of hers

He very much wanted to meet this Amado character and thank him for apparently stealing him from the threshold of the underworld. His musings were cut off when Emma bounced around asking if he'd like to go to the market for a walk. For a moment he considered refusing, he was tired after his ordeal but the excited look in Emma's face quickly changed his mind.

Smiling wildy and chuckling warmly at the child's eagerness he patted her on the head and nodded in agreement.

"Aye very well child let's go. But first let me get dressed."

Rising from his bed once more, but this time more carefully, he made his way over too a chair where he saw some folded clothes. His shirt had been covered in blood and whoever had tended to his wounds had been forced to cut it way but they had been kind enough to provide some replacements. Vlad's eyes fell on the loose fitting white shirt and fancy cloak complete with a hood and paused. He recognized this style of clothing along with the ornate symbols that adorned them.

"Luxaria.... so the gods have a sence of humour after all." he grumbled softly to himself.

It was ironic, to have escaped death only to return to the country that had robbed him of his home, his family, not to mention his eye and arm, and 20 years of his life. He closed his eyes and forced the dark memories from his mind.

Let it go old man, the war is over

Sighing he picked up the shirt and cloak and quickly put them on. Glancing over his weapons he tucked his pistol into his belt but decided against bringing his sword, no need to draw unwanted attention. Finally he grabbed a tall staff that was leaning against the wall in order to help him walk.

Satisfied he turned back to his companion and smiled.

"Well Emma, I am a stranger to this place so would you do me the honour and lead on?"

"She will do no such thing," an abrupt cold voice suddenly entered the room as its source made it through the doorway. There, he saw a little cub prancing around eagerly while the wild bear struggled to get on its hind legs.

Amado had not don his armor, instead, he had taken on the traditional Luxarian garbs. He dressed in tan linens and brown cloths, though his head remained uncovered to shield from the harsh Luxarian sun. His getup was hardly a delight for an ancient prince such as himself, but he must remained hidden and low key. However, he had two magnificent swords strapped to his back by a brown leather strap and sheath. The twin swords Eiva and Axesum were identical in size and shape, but their colors were quite the opposite. Eiva shone in brilliance like the pale moonlight while Axesum was as dark as the terrors of the night. Amado may part with his armor, but his swords remained with him wherever he went.

"You're finally awake, I see," if Amado had cared for the stranger's well being, he did not show it particularly well. He swept passed the stranger and walked towards Emma, whose eyes almost grew teary from learning how the two of them would leave the stranger soon. Emma always wondered why the two of them were on the run. Amado told her that ancient princes do not run. They were simply on the move, that is all. On the move to find out the next course of action. So Emma learned the hard way that the people they met, the quick friends she had made, would have to be left behind eventually. Sooner, better than later too.

"I trust that you'll be okay from now on. Thank the little girl for she had convinced me to save your life," Amado turned to the stranger, his cold calculating eyes narrowing.

Vlad had been smiling and looking down at the girl waiting for a response when a cold voice suddenly answered his question. His eyes snapped up and his gaze fell on the cold face of the newcomer. The stranger was tall and slender but the way he stood and carried himself hinted at the potential for great strength and agility. His hair was shockingly white and had it not been for his tanned skin the Cossack would have taken him for an albino. His most noticable feature was his eyes though, they were blue and cold as ice. As a soldier Vlad recognized the look of a man who had been through the horrors of war and despite the man's young appearance the look in his face told the Cossack that this was no boy. This was man who had seen great violence and had been changed by it.

If he was even a man at all that is. Vlad didn't know what it was but there was something about this individual that wasn't quite right, perhaps it was the fact that try as he might he could not place the man's anscestry. Vlad had travelled widely across each continent but he had never met a people that looked even remotely similar. But it was more than that, the man had an aura to him that felt...unnatural.

Before he could ponder it further the man shouldered his way past him into the room. Vlad couldn't help but notice the magnificent swords strapped to his back. Turning the man addressed him coldly once more. Vlad's eyes narrowed in return, while he was grateful that he had saved his life, he did not appreciate the way the stranger looked at him. Deciding to start over he smiled broadly and extended his hand,

"You must be Amado. Well met my friend, I am Vladimir Baikov and from what our mutual friend Emma tells me I owe you my life."

It was difficult for Amado to grasp the reasoning behind Vladimir's decision to deem Amado a friend, simply because Amado had saved the pitiful soul's life. You may regret those words, Vladimir Baikov, the Fionan thought, this man's life may prove to be valuable at some point...just like hers.

"I'll remember that," Amado grinned, "when the time comes, hopefully you will be there to repay that debt." The Fionan extended his arm to greet Vladimir in the customs the humans seemed to greet each other nowadays, as equals that is. It was nonsensical at first when Amado learned this foolish gesture from Emma, but she insisted that was how the humans earned each other's respect. Back then in Amado's time, the Fionans would never have shaken hands with such lowborn creatures.

"So what do you plan to do now, Vladimir? I'm afraid we cannot entertain you or babysit you for too long," Amado said, grinning, "Something's come up and we must leave immediately." As vague as that sounded, Amado felt as thought he had already revealed too much. He had hoped that Vladimir would only accept it and let them be.
