Not to mention 8265-8284 and 4458-4470, bringing the total to 298.

Of course, those were assigned to the Suburban Transit Division (STD) with 8265-8284 going to Red Arrow, and the 4458-4470 starting their lives at Frontier until they were reassigned to the City Division.

As it happens, 8000 was the first RTS I ever got to ride...caught it by luck not long after they started arriving on the property. As they started taking over Route 42, I would see people purposely pass up Flxibles or GMC fishbowls if they saw an RTS coming...LOL!

I remember when RTS buses were assigned to Germantown; I got to ride one on Route K on several occasions.

Then came the Neoplan invasion of the mid-1980's, and by the time 1986 rolled around, the RTS buses were all concentrated in 4 depots: Callowhill, Allegheny, Red Arrow, and Luzerne (4458-4470 only).

And then when some additional 1300's were reassigned to Luzerne, the 4400's were banished to Allegheny. And those were the first ones to be retired in the mid-1990's before the Ikarus invasion.

The last RTS's in revenue service were a handful out of Allegheny; I believe Tom Collins of SEPTA's Schedules Section was aboard the trip that turned out to be the last revenue run of an RTS on Route 33.[/big]

Let's not forget about 4462, which is still on Septa property only to be used during the Rodeos.

So the RTS's never received the Fade away scheme, and the 5613-5712 buses were not the first ones to receive new engines during their overhauls?

Nope the Nabi's were the first bus to receive the new stripe (and bring in the new era for Septa) And no the 5613-5712 batch were not the first to receive new engines during overhauls.

My apologizes to responding to this late topic

I think there was one RTS which received the fade away scheme...

SEPTA retrofitting buses is not a new practice...as matter as fact they retrofitted several buses after the RTS. These units were #3414 which received the DD50/B400R back in 1994. 5424 and one red arrow Flyer (think its 5405) had its engine replaced with a modern DD50 engine which is similar to the ones on the zfers.

Also along the years while the older Neoplans were service like #8684 had its transmission swapped out for a Ht740 (Sounded exactly like a 1982 Neoplan). CA you might remember that one as it was a callowhill Neoplan.

I knew that 3414 had a DD50 engine, but I had no clue that it had a B400R transmission, Also, I always wondered why 5424 sounded different

Yes 5424 received this engine during its overhaul back in 2006. Interestly enough, 5424 is the very first New Flyer I've ridden on.
