ugh, there havfe been so many things WRONG with that design - thank goodness MTS did at least a small redesign of the RTS. I cannot stand that front door though, and the WFD is just hideous! Why did they have to change it from the TMC design

Now a Flx Metro - that's the coolest.

Now I know that you're high. A Flxible Metro was not cooler than an RTS. Flxible Metros were rattle monsters. Yes, they were fast, but they were rattles and also you could feel every bump in the road. They did have not have good suspension. Yes, I do agree that the RTS' design was flawed, but SEPTA did not make it better by letting them fall into disrepair. They were fast as well. Some of those buses were straight speed demons. I cannot say that I have too many Flxible Metros that have gone fast and not rattled to pieces. Don't get me wrong, the RTS' rattled too, but that was because SEPTA let them fall into such disrepair.

Does anybody remember Neo EZ 3456 from C-hill (retired from Frankford or Comly?) with the loud turbo sounding engine? The last time i seen her she was roaring down "The Dusty" (46th St between market & haverford),sporting a purple full wrap on the 31
on a rainy day in 2000. Later that year this turbo sound was silenced by the VOH project and replaced with a grating sound between shifts that annoys the s**t out of me.

According to a reliable source, 3456 has been retired earlier this year. In fact, he told me that all the 1989 AN440 EZ suburbans are retired.

When I was younger(like 7 or 8ish), I used to always look forward to riding the K route along 66th Avenue in the West Oak Lane area. Why? For me, there was always the suspense over facing a possibility of riding a Neo BD(like 8542) from Frankford.

At times, I became dissapointed when a Germantown share of the line showed up (with something such as a Neo BM or CD like 8639 or 8737). I always preferred the 1983 Neo BDs as opposed to the 1984 Neo BMs & 1985 Neo CDs when it came to a line split between Frankford & another district. Both were excellent models.

I could always get an 8600 or 8700. It wasn't every day that I caught an 8400 or 8500.

Whenever I took a 8400 or 8500(like 8532), I always replayed the sound of the engine associated with that bus again, again & again in my mind.

That reminds me of when Germantown closed down and the 18 became split with the old Luzerne and Frankford... back then my 2 favorite districts.... and seeing 8443 running up Chew Avenue passing Cliveden Park... or seeing 3036 pull up, or if I am lucky, 3284 would pull up. Those were the days, bu it is kind of more enjoyable seeing 7248 or 7234 pull up and also seeing 5942 or 5705 on the 18. I wish I could have afforded a cam and recorder then....

On Sundays, towards the closure of Luzerne depot(especially throughout 1996), Luzerne made every effort possible to run the Neo EIs on all of the Olney Terminal bus routes that weren't accessible(like the 6, 18 & 22 at that time). The 6 didn't become fully accessible until the NABIs started arriving on Luzerne property in November 1996

The 1982 Neo AK transit, 8289, had a 3 speed automatic trannie upon retirement. 8289 & 8299 had the Neo DK & EB zf trannie shifters on the dashborads(buttons).
Hey CA, the Neo AK 8289 was a bus that I wish I got on when I was young. I remember that routes R, K, J, and 26 ran out of Comly during the peak hours back in 1996 to 1997(retirement stage). I saw the 8289 ran past me several times but unfortunately, I couldn't hear the engine due to bad timing. I remember I was on Neo CD Transit 8815 (Comly bus) on route K and the 8289 went past me real slow on Chelten Ave. By the way, there was a handful of Neos on Chelten Ave back in the 90s. Do you remember how good the 8289 was? in terms of speed.....how did the engine sound? cuz I never rode on any of the 8200 series Neos that ran out of Comly.
