OK, here's what was on the 15 today, 5356, 5355, 5400, 5353,5398,5357, 5273. They ran a pilot trolley over the reinforced cave-in site and it was fine. So 2323, 2326, 2336, & 2324 were out after lunch. All early straight operators like my friend Roro, were told to keep their buses out. Swing people and afternoon runs took out trolleys. They need all the buses they cam muster up, the 10 day El shutdown starts this weekend. I rode 3420 on the "R" , signed for Ridge & Midvale. I rode a Broad st. Subway train with automated announcements in a female voice. She even said "doors closing". The announcements gave all the transfer notices ,also. Very nice. The EL was jacked up at 4 PM westbound. I was on a train where the operator said the train ahead of us was having problems. When we got to 69th., he pulled in on track 2, and reversed to become a "B" train back to Frankford. They hurried everybody aboard. All of us on the train had to go up the entry stairs and exit through the turnstiles. A fun day on SEPTA. Chuck Greene |

5325 worked the 92/133 this afternoon on the 17:25 trip to Exton. I think it had "154" in the block sign, so it looks like the Lawnmower didn't last the day today... |

From my vantage point at work, I see most of the buses on the 92/133. It's a lot of Lawnmowers ( I hear them pulling up the hill on Indian run Drive) and Chumps. So it's nice to see a NABI or a New Flyer once in a while. Thanks for your report, Ctrabs. |

7247 was on the 18 on Friday & the engine went out on this bus @ Chew & Rising Sun Avenues northbound to Knorr Street. 7247 made a loud rattling noise & then the bus came to a complete stop. The oeprator told everyone to get off the bus @ Chew & Rising Sun Avenues. The operator made an attempt to get the bus moving & all seemed well & then he threw everyone off again because he couldn't get the bus moving again. There were only 6 people. 9084 & 9086 are currently at Elmwood. I spotted them on one of the routes last week. 9086 still has the as delivered signage, front & side. I spotted 3420 on the 25 last week, as well as 3429 on the 3, doing midday straights.

Very hot in Philly today! I had a meeting with someone at Drexel so I used SEPTA. I started out with 5654 on 109/4356 block. This bus has an ugly brown fullwrap with the word "Peanutopolis" displayed Snickers-style. I've seen many ads like this with various "seemingly made-up" words everywhere. I believe this is some Snickers promotion. Got to 69th Street and found out all 6 City Depots are operating the EL Shuttle. Saw 5804 (Frankford), 7216 (Midvale), and the bus I rode, 5585 (Comly, 1110 block) on it along with many others. Also on the EL Shuttle out of Callowhill were 5572, 5569, 5580, 5582, 5550, 5583, and 5571. These buses are on loan to Callowhill from Comly primarily for the shuttle. The pink transfers are back. No one collected them at 40th Street so I have a souvinier! Rode 1153 to 34th Street. After the meeting I walked in the heat to 30th Street and caught 5044 on its last run on Route 30 / 9172 block. This bus kept making a buzzing noise throughout the ride. At times this buzzing was holding the bus back and causing slow acceleration. The driver ran up on the curb (just the streetside front wheel) at 42nd and Woodland while turning. When I get a chance I'm gonna suggest a minor routing change for the 30 by having it use Chester Avenue between Woodland and 42nd since that turn is very hard for buses to make off of 42nd onto Woodland even with the dedicated turn road. Saw 5812 on 46 9455 block with another one of those ugly brown wraps, this one said "Nougatchaous" or something like that. On Haverford Avenue I saw 5442 deadheading off of 65/9602 block and 5351 on 30/9176 block. I saw 4581 on the 103/4201 block deadheading for the 2:54PM trip out of Ardmore. I got to the terminal (bus was 4E) and walked around. I decided that instead of catching 5654 again, I'd take the 113. I took this as a rare oppurtunity to ride the 113 out of North Terminal. I got 5278 on I believe 4517 block (sign displayed 450). The driver was having trouble remebering the code for 113 Darby. She (real young and short African American Lady, this isn't the first time I've seen her) kept announcing "this bus goes to Darby Transportation Center only, no Chester. Since we missed the left turn light at West Chester Pike, she proceeded across the Pike onto Terminal Square. I figured she was cutting over to Ludlow or Chestnut. Instead she turned onto Brief Avenue and came back around to the Pike and then onto 69th Street. The sign said 4 things. Not 1 was DARBY. First, it read NOT IN SERVICE/SEPTA. Then it read "113 69th Street Terminal." Next, "113 Chester via Darby." Then 113 Marcus Hook. She kept annoucing everytime someone wanted to get on that the bus was not going all the way to Marcus Hook and was only going to Darby Transportation Center. I rode to Highland and Stewart in Lansdowne and walked back home in the intense heat. |
