I rode 5114 on the 58 sometime back in 2004 en route to Tomlinson Road & the engine cut off in the middle of Bustleton Avenue while the bus was travelling at about 40mph & the enigne came right back on after only a second. The bus never stopped. The lights went out though, then the orbital came right back on.

Rode on 5421 today on the 42/9108 block. Nothing really unusual about that except the stop request sign. Apperantly this sign was salvaged from a 40 foot Neoplan. It glows red, is barely visible when activated at certain times, and says "Stop requested." The New Flyer stop request signs say "Stop Requested," are blue, and a different font. This is the first time I have seen this happen anywhere. I would have thought a replacement stop request sign would have been ordered from New Flyer rather than taken out an entirely different bus. Looks very wierd on 5421 none the less.

Also, rode 8100 on the 47M (7991) today on 9th from Christian to Market. I saw first hand the operating hazard through the Italian Market. The bus was delayed for a couple of minutes due to a car parked too close to the bus on the narrow street in the Italian Market. This is exactly why the 47 was taken off 9th Street and put onto 7th Street (although another reason was the streamlining of the South Philly routes east of 11th Street). I can see exactly why 40 foot Neoplans ruled the line for the longest and why 102" wide buses took awhile to appear on the line. I also noticed that the ridership is a lil too big for Eldorados. I thought that the 47M could use Eldorados but with all the senior citizens riding on it plus Center City ridership I would say a bus to be used on the line would have to be at least 35 feet long. 9th Street in general in that area north of the Italian Market is kinda narrow and a bit of a tight squeeze for 102" wide buses. This is exactly why SEPTA should have purchased a batch of 96" wide low floors to use on these tight streets.

Today on the Broad Street line I noticed video cameras in the train.

I read somewhere that SEPTA just received a million dollars to install cameras on buses, subway cars, and trolleys.

Take the 47m away from Southern, give the 47m to Frankford so that they can run their remaining Neoplans along 9th Street & that eradicates some if not all of the problem in terms of width & clearances.

5296 is completely voith of the NABI whirr sound - very odd!

The 96 inch wide thing is basically over with SEPTA - once NABIs went on routes during blue bus days, they just threw dedicated Neo routes out the door!

Rode 4564 on the XH / 3282 block yesterday. The bus wasn't too crowded but crowded nonetheless.

This morning there was a neoplan on the K, saw around 7:20 where it crosses the 18 Express.

No neo's seen on the 8 in the morning or afternoons a while.

Rode 5822 on the 4:20 109 (4408 block) home today. Boy was that a fun ride! First, the back doors wouldn't close. The driver had to use the emergancy toggle to get the doors to finally close. Then we pulled off right after the driver said to a starter that he was going to swap out when he got back. As soon as we started moving I noticed that bus didn't sound too good. Well low and behold when we got to Marshall and Springton Roads the driver said "This bus isn't going anywhere until I get another bus." He got on a passenger's cell phone and called control center to get another bus. Traffic became a royal mess behind the bus as everyone had to squeeze into the left lane to get by the unlucky bus. I swiped my pass there, got out, and waited around to see if a replacement would come. First, 5033 showed up running late on the 42 / 9144 block. Several passengers thought it was the replacement but they were sadly mistaken. The sign clearly said 42 Wycombe plus they rarely use Ikaruses on the 109 to begin with. Next the 4:40 109 showed up (5599 / 4400 block). This bus took on the load and continued to Chester with a large standing load. I walked home from the scene of the breakdown and while on my way saw 4544 on 107 4344 block pass by on the 4:45 to Oakview. I don't know if any replacement ever arrived but I'm sure that driver was waiting for quite some time. The driver left the bus running while he waited for a replacement bus.

But, you also create a major operational headache by deadheading buses from Frankford to either Center City or Whitman Plaza.
