Today:

Took a slow ride on 3481 on the 5 to Church - driver was just coasting practically, lol. Made it back to Frankford in time to catch 3428 on the 66. Too bad, it's transmission was pretty much shot, not shifting at the right locations and such. It really could roar, though! Also a shame that I missed riding 3490 on the express back (as I was on some 5500, the bus right BEFORE it), but fortunatly I got a picture of it at Frankford when it came back from its short turn trip to Cottman Avenue.

3428 and 3490 were the only 2 Neos on the 66 today - at least after 5pm - yikes!

Also, i learned that 2 66 buses apparently can leave at the same time - whoops, there went the Neo! :(.

I dashed down to Philadelphia for a quick ride on NJT. I rode Metro B 3147 on...the 412?! Yeah, that was an interesting change of pace. The ride wasn't TOO bad though, although if i were expecting an MCI, I would've been pretty disappointed (if i weren't a Metro B fan, of course).

I caught 3011 back to Philadelphia, which was unrefurbished - anyone know how many Metro Bs were not refurbished?

After hopping the BSL, I caught 5637 on the 8:50 L Bus. What a wonderful ride - the driver really pushed it. I'm certainly going to miss the DD50 in these engines when they are replaced next year - when they work properly, they really sound oh so good! To bad the transmission was kind of crapping out on this bus, with jerks that are reminiscent of the Dorados and a slight crunch into lock-up that reminded me of NABIs.

As for Frankford getting the 47m, all one would have to do is interline the pull outs & pullins with a route 5 run(i.e, after running as a 5 to Front & Market Streets, deadhead up to 8th & Spring Garden Streets to start). When completing, have them run up to 7th & Spring Garden in revenue service then deadhead to Front & Market Streets to run in revenue service to Bridge Street as a route 5 run. The 47m only needs 2 buses.

Back when the 5 ran to 3rd & Oregon, didn't Frankford have at least one trip deadhead to 2nd & Oregon Avenue or deadhead from 3rd & Oregon Avenue?

The 5 never ran to 3rd & Oregon.

Back before the 57 ran to Whitman Plaza, it was the 5 that ran 2 south philly east of the 47. When they rerouted all da routes the 5 got cut back to Front & Market Sts., and the 57 got extended to South philly instead of 29th & Jefferson.

In 1993, the 89 absorbed the former route P line through Juniata, rerouted through Kensington & extended to serve 29th & Jefferson Streets. Beginning in September 1996, the 89 was cut back to Front & Dauphin Streets..

I Rode 9099 westbound on the 15 today. I saw back to back , eastbound, 9097 & 9089. That's a lot of LRV's on the 15 for one day.

I rode 5301 on the 104 to West Chester. It seemed like non of the NABI's had working A/C today. 5301 was very hot inside. With all that the operator made good time, traffic was light all the way out to West Chester.

Rode 3440 on the 8 on Friday, 804 Block

Best Neoplan Ride ever!

The Guy was late, but he made up for lost time as traffic was light. The two best parts of the ride was the front door was sticky at Bridge anf Oxford, so he threw the bus into Nuetral and revved it up, just to get the air pressure up. And He hauled some serious Ass on the blvd, Neoplan screaming all the way.

When I usually ride the Neoplans, the operators are pretty gentle, So it was nice to ride on a trip like it was back in the day 5 yrs. ago.

Years ago(like in the late 1980s through 1995ish), the old timers at Comly(1,14,20,67 & 84) & Southern(37 & 68, as well as deadheads) used to have their feet all the way down on the accelerator on the long gone Neo AK transits(8285-8356,8398-8400) & (8357-8397,8401-8410). It was nothing to do 65 on the expressway with a long gone but not forgotten 1982 Neoplan AK 8386.

Some of the ones assigned to Comly were so fast that you had to literally stand up to apply the foot brake on these Neo AKs.

I've been trying to get a Neoplan on the 8 for some time now in my opinion it's the best route to ride a Neoplan now, particularly on the Boulevard. I got a great recording of 3484 on it - now I'd like a normal shifting Neo. Maybe one day, i guess.

What is block 804? What time does that leave Olney Transportation Center?

Anyway, I rode 3483 on the R today. The a/c wasn't working, so it was hot like a sauna. However, soon, after I got a seat and relaxed, I cooled down and it was really a nice ride.

Anyway, I really do miss the days when the drivers pushed the buses in general. Nowadays it seems like you can tell the veterans from the newer people - the vets know that back in the day, if you wanted your bus to move (and remain on schedule) you had to punch it!

Rode 5043 on the 30 yesterday. And since we're feeling nostalgic about Neos... I'll never forget the day I saw 3487 and 8734 crossing 46th & Haverford together. 3487 on the 31 EB and 8734 on the 64 SB, it was June 11, 1998 a little after 3pm.

You must have meant either sometime in 1997 or 1999. June 1998, SEPTA was on a 40 day strike that lasted through the first few weeks of that summer.
