What type of transmission did you say? The allisions like in the Neoplan 60 foot? Well I say why not SEPTA choose a unique powertain like something like the Cummins ISM with the Voith transmission on there artics. I dont think that new flyer offers the DD60 in there 60 foot model of the artic bus. Not to acknewledge the fact that the voith would be something very unique to the fleet around here since theres no place near philadelphia that sport that combine besides the 2004-2005 D40lfs at maryland.

If I was in charged at SEPTA, I would purchase like two artics with different powertains for testing purposes considering that the current fleet of artics does not perform great when it comes to various terrains.

Considering only NABI and New Flyer are left as artic builders, I would certainly like some D60LFs as replacements. They also have a pretty smooth ride as well!

DD60 is not offered in the new Flyer d60LF - that was only a Neoplan thing.

I would certainly enjoy an ISM/Voith powered artic (remembers Minneapolis's New Flyer D60's), as the ISM is powerful as is a Voith. I wouldnt mind trying it with a ZF though either.

Crafter: "8000" series engine is a Cummins ISL

8119: I would choose number 2 with the updated New Flyer front design.

Well, SEPTA can specially order D60LF's with the series 60, that is how Beeline (Westchester Co. NY) got their buses, it was a special order, then Neoplan then provided the AN460 and the AN460LF with the series 60, so it can be done.

Neoplan offered the series 60 on their artics buses back in 1998-1999, Bee-Line was the first one to get advantage of that opition, then wmata follow pursuit of it. The only bus which new flyer offer the series 60 in was the D45HF "viking" which mainly operates in houston,tx with a handful in New York city.

To answer some questions on here, SEPTA's Neoplans, like Nashville MTA, and Houston Metro have the DD series 50 with the Allison B500 transmissions. Most artics have either the B500 or the ZF5HP602 or the ZF6HP602 transmissions. Muni has the ISM/B500 powertrain in their AN460's. The AK's through the CD's did have "NEOPLAN" on the back of the buses. Also the AK's and the BD's had different transmissions, they had the Allison HT747/478 transmissions while the BM, BP and the CD models had the Allison HT745 (not the Allison V730/V731 transmissions, they are mostly in RTS and Flxible Metro buses).

Allison and Detroit diesel are two different companies. Detroit diesel makes engines to put into trucks and buses while allision transmissions makes transmissions to be placed inside cars-buses=trucks. Transmissions are responsible of controlling the RPM speeds of the engine and to manipulate how much torque it outputs via axles. Engines are what generate the power needed. Don't get the two mixed up they are both made by different companies and serve a totally different purpose in the drivetain of a bus.

Allision transmission still sells the World Verison of its transmission:
B-300R- 4-6 speed
B-400R- 4-6 speed
B-500R- 5-6 speed

Detriot Diesel
DD50 - discontinue in 2004
DD60 - Active

I remember as a teenager Southern & Comly having the best & cleanest fleet of Neo's. Southern had:
8366-8397
8401-8410
8670-8698
8757-8789
BELIEVE ME THEIR BUSES RAN GOOD ALL THE TIME ESPECIALLY THE EARLY 83 & 84 SERIES OF NEO'S. THEN ONE DAY I WAS ON THE ROUTE L 86 SERIES HEADED 2WARDS OLNEY TERMINAL & SAW SOMETHING I COULDN'T BELIEVE. IT WAS BUS#3015 ON THE RT. 6. I SAID THIS CAN'T BE CAUSE THE NEO'S WERE MOVING PREETY GOOD. THEN BACK ON STENTON AVE. THE NEXT I SAW MORE 3000 SERIES NEO'S & THEY WERE FRESH AS ALL CAN BE. I RE-LOCATED BACK 2 SW PHILLY & SOUTHERN HAD 3000 MODELS ALSO BUT THE DOOR CONTROLS WERE ON THE LEFT SIDE. SOUTHERN HAD:
3207-3234
3440-3449 THESE EVENTUALLY WOULD BECOME RT. 76 ONLY BUSES FROM CLWHL.
3480-3491

Comly's Neo's were awesome also. They had a lot of late numbered 3300 & early 3400 models as well.

Luzerne had 3000-3116, 3272-3311. They had GM fishbowls up until September 1988 or 1989.

Germantown had 8601-8670, 8726-8755, 3312-3356, and I think 3197-3202 early on.
