To answer some questions on here, SEPTA's Neoplans, like Nashville MTA, and Houston Metro have the DD series 50 with the Allison B500 transmissions. Most artics have either the B500 or the ZF5HP602 or the ZF6HP602 transmissions. Muni has the ISM/B500 powertrain in their AN460's. The AK's through the CD's did have "NEOPLAN" on the back of the buses. Also the AK's and the BD's had different transmissions, they had the Allison HT747/478 transmissions while the BM, BP and the CD models had the Allison HT745 (not the Allison V730/V731 transmissions, they are mostly in RTS and Flxible Metro buses).
I have to correct you on something. Neoplans AKs and BDs had the 6V92TA turbo engine with the Allison HT740 transmission. The Neoplan BMs and CDs had the Allison HT747.

I like how those 1982-1985 Neoplan sounds as their engine's RPM gone up to almost its max as accelerates from stop in the 1st gear.

I am going to number all the NEOPLANS that I have riden during the "NEO" era. Here Goes from least to greatest:
8337 on the R, 8363 on the C, 8438 on the K, 8444 on the K, 8456 on the 26, 8459 on the 26, 8468 on the 26, 8480 on the 26, 8547 on the 26, 8554 on the 26, 8560 on the J, 8606 on the C, 8607 on the C, 8612 on the C, 8615-16 on the C, 8620 on the H, 8621 on the K, 8622 on the C(back in 1994), 8623 on the H, 8625 on the C, 8630 on the C, 8635 on the C, 8636 on the 22(very unusual due to Midvale using DKs and EBs on the 22 and 55) 8638 on the C, 8639 on the C, 8645 on the C, 8646 on the C (back in 1996 when the Broad Street Line caught on fire and the bus was super packed!!), 8650 on the H, 8652 on the C(best Neo BM of all time!!) 8655 on the C (back when SEPTA placed those WJJZ,Y100, and Popvision ads on the Neos in 1996), 8736 on the R (the only 8700 series Neo I got on), 8815 on the K and C(Comly buses on the C?), 8829 on the K, 8835 on the K, 8843 on the K, and 8850 on the K.

Note: The only buses that were a oddball to me growing up as a kid were 8200 seires Neos (8285-8299) at Comly. After getting picked up from school in 1996, I saw the 8299 on the 26 to Rittenhouse and Pulaski. Then, the next day, I saw the 8289 on the R to Wissahickon Transfer Ctr. Then, I saw the 8289 on the K to Ridge and Midvale. FINALLY, I saw the 8289 on the 26 going to Devereaux and Algon Ave during the early AM rush hour at Olney Terminal. I then the 8289 going north on Broad St heading to Cheltenham. I wonder assigned it was on. Maybe on the C to City Hall.

Its a darn shame what happened to NEO CD 8725 tho. It caught fire in the engine compartment at Victory and I think the 6V92TA was toast but Doug Diehl probably knows what happened.

I think I saw that bus when I was a kid. I remember seeing one of the older Neos burnt up in the back...when I would ride by on the P&W. The first bus I ever saw in such a state... :(

yes this is the bus. What a shame. You know I gotta say this but SEPTA is darn lucky this didn't happen at Comly back in the early 90s. At the time when we had the oldest fleet of Neo AKs and CDs, the diesel technicians weren't keeping them up and SEPTA was getting scrutinized by the public for this. I'm glad this incident did not happen for those Neoplans or there would have been a major shortage for that district.
