what nobody mentions 3414 ! that was the best neo ever
3414 was a bus assigned to Southern and it never made its way to different districts. In addition, it was a test bus for the Detroit Diesel Series 50 Engine with Allison B400-R trannie. That was the only Neo I never got one in addition to the 8200 series Neos at Comly.

I rode 3414 once on the 23 after school. I went to GFS and would sometimes ride the 23 (almost always a Neoplan, once I passed up a DD50 New Flyer to wait for a Neop :P) and then transfer to the H to get home instead of riding the H straight (lots of Nabi's). Miss those days (and also wish I had been taking pics/recording then)! :(

Also, it was awesome to be in class and hear Neo's go by on the 23, or watch stuff go by on the H/XH from the playground.

Heh, 3414. I remember the first time my mom and I saw that bus. We heard what sounded like the then-new NABIs coming up the street, and then saw a Neo go by. We were both quite confused! lol.

Years later, I'd get my first and only ride on the bus after chasing it down on the 29. I actually got to see, photograph, and ride the Orion VII on the 37 as well because I caught 3414! T'was quite awesome.

Was you with us when Ron almost slid halfway back after that chick took off on the 37?

Think about how awesome Philadelphia was before the NABIs. It was awesome to see Neo AKs and BDs on the K, R, and 26. Hearing those Neo BMs on the C. Remembering the early 90s that was dominated by Neoplan >>>> 8285-8875 then 3000-3492

In response to Post #31:
3414 was originally assigned to Comly Depot brand new in 1989 in the group I believe( 3372-3416). I'm Guessing it went to Allegheny with that group when 5059-5133 arrived in 1996.
Years later it showed back up at Comly w/ the DD50 motor in it and in the current paint scheme. Not sure where it was retired from. It was Quick though!
But, I'm sorry to say to you younger NEO FANS, it was a Neoplan. Give me a Green Hornet, Fishbowl, or Flxible, especially an 8-cylinder Flx any day. The Neos brought all the girls and "girllymen" onto the job. Ask an old Frankford guy what it was like pulling off the old "3" stand onto Frankford Ave. Or Pulling off the old "W" stand next to the Doughnut Shoppe with another W sitting next to you. You needed arms, shoulders and strong hands to wheel those babies!
Glad to see they saved 4300 and 6569. Wished they would have saved a Hornet. 3227 was out back in the corner of Comly for saving but somehow it ended up at Nimco in 1982. And yes I am sad that 3332 or some Neo wasn't saved.

Which buses your talking about? Are you saying that the Neoplan BDs at Frankford were hard to maneuver or were you talking about the Flxibles?
