LOL, before the NABIs though were the RTSs, which dominated the 65, 46, and 21 among others. They were ok (but my main RTS experience was in MD riding the Metrobus's RTSs on the K6). I loved seeing and riding the Neos everywhere (and boy did they live on the 105!) though. They were beautiful buses, even though they were boxier than older buses in the fleet. I have those fond memories of hearing those 8000s scream like a fire engine up the street, and go up that big hill at 69th Street. Also, the Neo shift (or "Neo-jerk" as it's more commonly known as) will always remain a fond memory! SEPTA=Neoplan and Neoplan=SEPTA to me back then, and it kind of still does. Sadly I didn't exist during the "pre-Neo" era, so I can't comment on the Flxes and such. |

It is sad though because Neoplan USA will no longer be manufacturing Neoplan AN440s or 60s no more. It sucks Now we have to depend on New Flyer. If SEPTA had any brains, they should have diversified the entire fleet such as having NovaRTSes, Neoplan, and New Flyer.

Hey here is a seven minute of a MCI that is powered by Detroit Diesel 6V92TA and Allison HT740 4 Speed Automatic. Enjoy the sound of what was used to be the NeoPLAN era. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaJTEIx3wRo |

They lived on the 106 as well. I loved riding a Neo on the 105 as it went up "the hill" on 75th Street. The buses rolled back @ Brockton Road & 75th Street on the outbound runs. The 8707 was the first Neo BM suburban I ever rode and it was on the 105. This was back in 1996. It was a Saturday morning, and 8571 on the 103 rolled into the North Terminal. I was at a loss of words, but I chose the 8707. I wish I had not done that. The 8571 would have given me a run for my zone fares! |

Interesting how the flat panel was just applied over the zags of the Neos. Sorry to see that bus burn. I remember some of the 8000 series Neos had epic rust problems, too! Maybe maintenance improved as I never really saw this on the 3000s. |

That is because throughout the early 90s SEPTA had a massive fleet with the Neoplan Series. All of the buses that were assigned to the districts could not have all fitted in to the garages. Each bay at a district can only fit about 20 buses each, that is 10 of them on each side of the bay. Then, everything else has to stay outside. Look at Comly District, at the end of the Neoplan delivery, they had 72 Neoplan AKs, 50 Neoplan CDs, and 48 Neoplan ZFers. The biggest darn fleet in Philly. In addition, it used to rain a lot back then too which can cause a lot of rust problems. |

I was curious. Did the 8435-8584 and 8601-8725 groups come with the white baseboard panels or did they come with the black baseboard panels? I remember when I was very, very young(1987,1988 ish), my stalker Neo was the long gone 8752. It appeared on the H all of the time. I remember 8752 and how it, along with the 8738, 8741, 8751 and 8754 retained their white baseboard panels. 8741 made it's home on the 18. The others appeared on the H and XH frequently. |
