People, it is time that we come out of the dark ages and expand this subway system. I feel that Septa should extend it up the roosevelt blvd and then send a route up to mt.airy, let the cedar book mall be the last stop. |

Hell yes! Then I would not have to catch the 18, 22, 22 Express, C, or L to 18 home. Wow. I can catch any bus route but the 55 and be within walking distance of my house.

Not likely they'll recieve the message. They wouldn't know a good idea if they saw one. Even if they did, they still wouldn't care. Anything to screw the masses. |

thats a good idea BUT! they should be trolleys, 2 rts: 81 and 82 81:Olney Terminal to fort washington (via cedarbrook mall) 82:Olney Terminal to Warminister just like the 101 and 102 that spur off from 69th and the MFL these new trolleys 81 and 82 that spur from Olney and the BSL ALSO. The cross county metro shoud via Route1 from Chester Transportation ctr to these places Media, Ardmore, Bala, Wissahickon Transfer, North Phila, Northeast Phila, Neshaminy mall, Langhorne, Trenton, and Princeton. WITH a spur that spurs off from media and goes to king of prussia, norristown, plymouth meeeting, willow grove, somerton, and spurs back on to regular rt in Neshaminy Mall this will probably not happen, buuut its a thought |

I think since SEPTA so much wants to be like New York MTA, why is the system not like New York MTA? It's like SEPTA is stuck in the stone age while everyone else is advancing in transportation. |

agreed, this whole "we dont have enough cash thing" is a croc. We should be advancing. And not just in buses. 126 routes are enough if u ask me. We need more subways. I have some gr8 ideas for subways FLASH- Pattison Station to Wissahickon with spurs to the airport, west chester, and eastbound spurs to frankford terminal. People need to be able to get to West Chester and 69th street fast right? But from south philadelphia, it can be a hassle. So the flash is able to clear up those problems. and the airport too? Flash has that covered. This next idea may be the looniest idea ever composed but here i go CCM The Cross County Metro. A line that goes from Chester Transportation Center Along City Ave, through wissahickon transfer onto Roosevelt to Neshaminy Mall. I bet ur thinking, were gonna have to tear up some road for this. No, this project will be completly elevated. and will improve the transportation of philadelphia. Come on folks. I know these are pie in the sky ideas but 2 subways aint gonna do jack to make philadelphia like NYC |

There's no question that Philly needs at least the Roosevelt Blvd Subway. However, the idea that the RBS would be a step toward making SEPTA similar to the MTA is likely incorrect. Philadelphia's historic resistance to elevated structures being constructed through center city is largely to blame for SEPTA not having a subway network to rival New York or even Chicago. If the City had allowed elevated structures through center city back at the turn of the 20th century we may have had a few more subway lines. It's likely in this case Philadelphia would have followed the model used by New York, Boston, and Chicago where early elevated structures would be replaced by subways as tunnelling technology advanced. Unfortunately since we lacked the outer area rapid transit lines which a center city elevated network would have fostered by the time we got the capacity to accomodate rapid transit trains from places like Roxborough, Darby, and Northeast Philly in the Broad Street Subway those areas were grown up enough that such construction was out of the question. Thus we're stuck with the MFL and BSS At this point the Roosevelt Blvd is probably the best option for SEPTA's long term development. It would significantly reduce the number of buses needed to service Northeast Philadelphia and likely create a situation where portions of the Northeast could be redeveloped into more transit friendly developments. The cost of construction would be greatly minimized due to the very large median which the road has for most of its length, and that median would also allow cut and cover construction to be done while keeping disruption to the minimum. I know when the FTA reviewed the project back in 2000 or 2001 it had one of the best capital cost per rider numbers of any project reviewed that year. Sadly SEPTA and the City of Philly decided to pass on the construction and the Northeast Transport Improvement Study fell by the wayside. Still, the NETIS study's alternative C+ seems to be the most viable option for getting the Roosevelt Blvd Subway built in the next 20 to 30 years. Really the Cross County Metro almost has to be a commuter line either based on the Regional Rail Network or using a DMU. Building the cross county metro as a subway line or light rail, especially one elevated over a roadway would greatly increase the cost of building the line. A Cross County subway or LRT line would require a complex and difficult construction arrangement to reach Trenton, which is neccesary to create a transfer to NJT for the many NY bound Bucks and Mongtomery county commuters. Even if the Cross County Metro subway or light rail line were to give folks along it a one seat ride it's unlikely most folks would relinquish their cars for trips to places like Plymouth Meeting or King of Prussia. Most folks who would use it would likely use it even if it required a three seat ride to get from either point. As such IMHO SEPTA's focus on the Cross County Metro should center on getting the line going in the cheapest possible way, running over the Trenton Cutoff with FRA compatible electric or diesel vehicles and emphasising park and rides to bring Bucks and Montco commuters to either NJT trains at Trenton or to King of Prussia officeparks. It's a really bad idea to try to use subways to provide a one seat ride from everywhere to everywhere else in Philadelphia. Population densities beyond 69th St are very unlikely to support a subway, and going all the way to West Chester would simply be a waste. If rail service to West Chester is desired then the R3 West Chester is simply sitting largely unused at the time being, and there's little in the way of extending that train all the way. |

............ Um, wow, the CCM already has a planned route....from Thorndale to Trenton via KOP, providing a vital rail link to KOP for connections to the route 100, as well as additional service to Norristown, but most importantly providing an alternative to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and service to communities clogged with traffic, such as Plymouth Meeting and Neshaminy. Oh yeah, this is the cross county link that we desperately need - service to lower bucks county without going through Philadelphia. I've love for that line to come about. People from chester: just take the 37 and the RBS to wherever its going. I'll ride to Trenton without having to take an extra 1.5 to 2 hours to go down to philadelphia
