I dunno what car # was up front but I was in car #695 bringing up the rear of a southound Express. We went normally from Olney to Erie but we shot out of Erie like a bat out of hell! I thought maybe I was buggin out but the speedometer read 45 when the last car reached the end of the platform! We got up to 68 at Allegheny and held it for a while until North Philly. At Cecil B. I heard a rather loud PLOP and then our end of the car started making funny noises as we were slowing down, and at Race-Vine the train went out of service and everyone had to transfer to the local. Wonder what happened there...

I also spotted a very strange looking piece of work equipment headed north at City Hall at about 9:45.

Something came loose. And my birthday car, #529, has always been a racer. The last time i rode it on the North broad, it maxed out at 72 mph northbound between Girard and NP, flew through NP at 40, and screamed between Erie and Olney at 76. That was three months ago.

I miss my baby!!

Any train with #529 in the lead turns into an orange Acela Express and leaves the rails steaming behind it.

A group of us will ride the BSS on Dec. 27th on a fan trip. We'll ride in the back car so we can see the speedometer, or maybe we can see it from the front through the smoked glass?
