SEPTA has a bid up to purchase 333 Cummins ISL-280 engines, you can read more on that on your news page... http://www.philadelphiatransitvehicles.cjb.net/news.php |

Detroit Diesel exited the bus engine business back in 2004, making parts availability extremely difficult at present. This is probably is why SEPTA is phasing out the DDC series 50 engines !!! |

Does anyone know if Detroit Diesel is still planning to re-enter the transit market at some point this year? That was the word when they ended production of the series 50. |

Detriot Diesel was forced out of the bus engine business, because the DD Series 50 & 60 engines couldn't meet the emission standards. That's why they tried the EGR, but that didn't work so they had to leave the business in 2004. At least that's what I heard happened. They were desperate to meet the emission standards as the DD Series 50 & 60 engines were popular. They for sure wouldn't leave on their own if they were still making a profit !!! |

They should also retrofitted the engines to the current New Flyers and Neoplan AN460

DD Series 60 should be good for them to retrofit instead because of its heavy duty engine that has the highest horsepower that the DD Series 50 the New Flyers currently running with.
