I remember that 7208 had a motorcycle noise everytime that it was stopped and 7235 had a loud noise when the back door opened. Has anyone ridden these two buses lately? Do these buses still have these things? |

Whenever the artics are stopped for long periods of time @ an intersection while in drive with the operator applying the brake pedal, they sometimes make that "motorcycle" or "knocking" noise. This isn't limited to the artics assigned to Midvale but to the artics assigned to Allegheny as well. I remember back in 2004 when the Midvale artics were slowly being taken out of service for overhauls. 7214 was one of the last artics assigned to Midvale to receive an overhaul & black bellows. Leading up to that point, 7214 made the "motorcycle" or "knocking" noise "while in operation", with the operator applying the accelerator to the max. The faster 7214 went, the more noise that it made. To ride 7214 on the 55 out to Dolyestown at that time(late 2004) was a little frightening. And as for the loud "shhhhhhhh" that the artics make whenever the center door is opened to let passengers off from the back of the vehicle, that's air pressure related. Sometimes too much air pressure is applied. Sometimes not enough air pressure is applied. At times on the artics, the back doors won't close immediately. The operator will have to go to the center doors & play with the air pressure to tighten it up or make sure that the sensors on the bottom of the center exit doors have some contact with the floor so that the doors will close, making sure that there aren't any obstructions while the center doors are being closed. Welcome to my home in the SEPTA City Transit Division, Midvale depot(formerly Luzerne). Midvale has it all. You really missed out when Midvale had the Neo EI transits(3282-3316 & sometimes, 3317-3318 & 3320-3322). Nothing like a 5600 on the 57 at night(block 3918). |
