I was in 69th St this afternoon waiting for a 102 when I saw a supervisor talking to Anthony, the starter for that platform. As I was listening they were discussing how the people downtown were proposing to cut service in the summer. I happened to look closer to the supervisor and he was holding a piece of paper with propsed cuts for some Victory routes that I could read. Here is what I read: 100- 30 minute wkdy service between 9:30 and 2:00. Weekend service 30 minutes at all times. 101/102 - 60 minute wkdy service between 9:00 and 2:00 103 - 90 minute headway at all times (that's what it said) 104 - eliminate most Newtown Square trips on all service days 105 - 60 minute headways at all times; eliminate Sunday service 106 - NO SERVICE between 10:00 and 2:00 wkdys 107 - couldn't quite make it out but said something about Saturda and evening service. That is all I got to write down before the guy walked away. Funny thing is Anthony just kept laughing and saying "never". Was half tempted to ask him but he got busy going back to his infamous announcements. Should be interesting |

Eliminate the 104 trips that terminate & originate in Newtown Square? That's impossible. Residents in Marple, Haverford & Upper Darby Townships are DEFINITELY going to voice their opposition towards this. |

In addition, the 304 will be given the ax. Personally, I won't miss it, although I don't like the thought of waiting an hour for a bus @ City Line. |

SEPTA is really trying to save the money. The guy I have on the 110 4620 block at 3:45 PM was telling me about his new pick. Before his pick was a straight on the 110/111 paaying 9.5 hrs. He picked the same run effective June and they totally changed the run. He does a 110 to the 119 and then ends up on the 109 out of Chester to finish the night. Pays a total of 8.6 hrs. Says this has happened to a lot of the runs. But he did mention that there is s till a ton of overtime avaiable at Victory. Says he could easily work a 80 hour week if he wanted to. |

As I have stated before, Midvale is going through the same thing. There are(or were, I'm not sure) 2 runs on the H/XH(3291, 3292 blocks) that are(or were) inclusive of a trip & a half, starting from Broad & Erie twice, ending at Cheltenham & Ogontz once, then turning over into route 57 trips leaving Fern Rock Terminal. There was a run inclusive of a trip on the 57(starting either at Fern Rock or Olney Avenue) to South Philadelphia, running back up North, ending either at Olney Avenue or 10th & Nedro then turning over to an 18 up at Fox Chase to Cedarbrook. Many of the straights at Midvale have been turned over into swings, sometimes involving 3 or 4 different drivers driving the same bus on the same route, changing at the meeting spot as often as 3 or 4 times during the week. Anyone ride block 3104 on the 23 as of late? Finally, there are 3 blocks on the L(3354, 3364 & 3367) that involve runs paying between 8.1 to 8.6. 3354 & 3364 blocks make relief at Olney Terminal sometime in the early afternoon, staying out there until 8:45pm(3364 block) or 9.15pm(3354 block) during the week. 3367 block comes out at about 10am, making relief sometime at about 12:45 in the afternoon. If I'm wrong, correct me. Callowhill & Allegheny operators sometimes do 3 routes a day. Why? Swings & interlinings. It's normal for a Callowhill bus operator(I wish I were one) to do 3 roundtrips on the 52,(on for about 4 hours & 20 minutes), be off for 2 hours, do 3 & a half trips on the 21/42(on for another 3 or 4 hours). Or vice versa. |
