I was told that the prototype will be here this summer. It will be driven by instructors, and given a thorough shake-out. Then it will be sent back for upgrades and modifications if needed. There are no retrievers on the back for the poles. The whole thing is battery operated. also, the off-wire capability is limited to 25 MPH.

Should be interesting, I think.

It definitely seems interesting! i can't wait for those TTs to arrive - it's always fun riding a new mode of transportation!

Too bad it's at the expense of the Neos...

If they're coming in with no retrievers, How do 1234 expect the operators to rewire the cars? Have a mechanic come out and jump on the roof? Wish it back on the wires?

Do them fools realise the scope of the riots if they ordered them without retrievers?

I would think that they know better than to build trolleys w/o retrievers, But I wouldn't be surprised, REMEMBER, THIS IS SEPTA! Always One Iota Short of Having Common Sense!

Probably with a switch on the control panel.

What if the bus is on a curve? Under an overpass? Around special catenary work? I truly think TTs without retrievers is asking for trouble.

You have a point. I'm surprised that there aren't any retrievers on them. Looks like a goof on somebody's part.

The design of the new SEPTA Trackless Trolleys is based on the new TT's being put into service in Vancouver.

Based on the photograph, If you look at the back of them, they seem to not have retreivers on them.

Hmm, what exactly are retrievers. Based on the picture, it would be easy to rewire the poles by just tugging on the wire in the back. That's how the trolley operators do it when it happens...

Someone else might be able to describe it better, but here goes:

A retriever is a device that holds a length of rope (won't conduct electricity when wet) which has the capability to lock up to prevent a trolley pole from causing a short (pole contacts the catenary and span wires simultaneously.)
