(From what I saw yesterday, just a few pillars remain, and they're already putting up guideway around 47th Street. 52nd has more to go, but for the most part, the 5200 block is open to sky for the first time in a century.) Thanks for the update. I expect a lot to be done in this 16 day shut down. Chuck Greene |

Expect the 40 Foot Neo's to start being retired as the trackless coaches come in , one for one. We had a good cold A/C unit on 3418 today, and it looked like the floor was power washed. That Dunbar robbery was on the 75 Route today. My buddy drove right by it. http://www.subchat.com/buschat/read.asp?Id=66411 http://www.subchat.com/buschat/read.asp?Id=66397 Chuck Greene |

It's nice how septa is ordering trackless trolleys to make them look like the low floor buses we have now if you look at the demostrator 800 face to face it looks like it is smiling at you i know why

(if you look at the demonstrator 800 face to face it looks like it is smiling at you ) That face is on a lot of the New Flyer vehicles now, so it was a natural. I like the back window in it, too. Chuck Greene |

5444 was involved in a slight fender bender @ Broad & Chestnut. Basically a gentleman whom I will refer to as "Ray-Ban McDouche" thought that he can cut off a bus and make a right turn it. Well, he thought wrong. After snarling traffic (all vehicles had to drive onto the curb in order to proceed), McDouche that the Philadelphia Police would be kind to lift his plastic Dodge Caliber off of the New Flyer. The officer actually tried (and then common sense prevailed), and then he said "F--K that. Move it and Park it." The operator on the other hand, remained calm, directed traffic, waited for her supervisor to file a report and was kind of relieved that she didn't have to run out her block. From a source at SEPTA. Regarding new destination signs for the trolleys, SEPTA is planning on installing electronic destination signs in all of the trolleys. As we understand this will include the PCC-IIs. It has been talked about for years. The current plan is to tie this in with installation of the control equipment for automatic route announcements and an interior electronic sign as part of the auto announcements. We also understand the vendor that was supplying SEPTA with roll sign linens has gotten out of that business. We have no idea for a time line for any of this to happen. The curtain signs worked well, but I can see why they need to be electronic to tie in with the interior announcement systems. So now the SEPTA bus, trolley , and trackless fleet will all be the same. The 30 or so 40 Ft. Neoplans which will never get this change will be scrapped anyway next year. Next in line will be the NABI's , they are slated for retirement in a few years. Chuck Greene |
