I have a question for you all to ponder upon. Where did Southern usually tend to deploy their 1985 Neo CDs(8756-8788)? Where they thrown in anywhere or where they specifically assigned to certain routes? If my memory serves me correct, the following routes assigned to Southern back in 1991 saw these bus assignments: C(anything) G(1982 Neo AKs) 2(either the 8300s or 8700s) 5(anything) 7(8300s) 12(8300s, I spotted 8385 on the 12 in original form sometime in July 1990 @ 9th & Market), 17(anything, everything) 23(8300s whenever dieselized) 37(mainly the 1987 Neo EB 3212-3236 group and 1989 Neo EZ II transits 3480-3491) 47(anything, but not surprising if one saw 8756-8788 on this route) 63/64/68(all most likely to see the 8756-8788 group, but an 8300 wasn't unusual), 90(the few 1984 Neo BPs, 1300s) U(anything), charters(8300s, 8756-8788 on a good day). Any corrections? It was so much fun to see a bus like 8401 pulling up to 9th & Market on the 47. |

I remember only seeing the 8300 Neo's mostly on the 5 and also seeing some 8400's/8500's here and there on the 5, I usually seen EI's and EZ's on the C, I've seen Frankford buses make their way onto the 23 before, and anytime I seen buses on the 47, they were from Luzerne. |

The buses you may have seen on the 23 that you classify as Frankford buses were actually Luzerne buses if they were numbered between 8435-8444. Luzerne had 8435-8444 until Germantown closed in 1993, then they went back to Franfkford(8440 was wrecked in a high speed chase in 1988, 8438 and 8443 were retired before Germantown closed). Keep in mind that Southern had the lowest of the 8400s(last of the AK fleet), 8401-8410. 8401-8410 had wheelchair lifts in the back. Back in 1991, Frankford had mainly 8400s, 8500s, so a bus like 8512 on the 5 was commonplace, as was 8386 on the Southern shares. |
