For subway, bus and trolley riders, cash fares will remain at $2 and tokens will still cost $1.30, under the fare plan that will take effect July 9. But transfers will be eliminated on Aug. 1, meaning that riders wanting to transfer will have to buy an additional token or use a daily, weekly or monthly pass.

For regional rail passengers, the biggest change will be that TransPasses will no longer be accepted in Zone 1 (Philadelphia) during peak hours, effective July 30. Zone 1 riders will be required to buy a new Zone 1 weekly or monthly TrailPass, at a price 20 percent higher than current prices.

For regional rail passengers in Zone 3, the most populous zone, peak one-way fares will rise to $5 from the current $4.50, and monthly passes will cost $142.50, up from the current $126.50.

UPDATE: I sent an email to SEPTA Customer Service asking about school token prices.

Mr. Dubin,

SEPTA is currently involved in negotiations with school officials on the
cost of student transportation.  Once the negotiations have concluded, the
information will be made available.

Sincerely,
SEPTA Customer Service

This should be fun. A lot of kids depend on transfers that we get with our school tokens. No more transfers = 2x as many tokens needed.

Figure that the price stays the same. $10 for a pack of $10 tokens.

I use one token/trip because I get a transfer. Thats two tokens a day, five days in a week, one pack a week.

If I need two tokens/trip due to no transfers, thats 4 tokens/day, 20 tokens/week, two packs a week.

$10/pack x 2 = $20/week
$20/week x 4 weeks = $80/month

Figure 1 month = 20 school days.

On average, we have 180 school days. So, thats 9 months worth of tokens.

$90/month x 9 = $720 a year in tokens.

AND that means that I could only take the 18/67 or the 26/67. Two other routes popular with kids getting from Center City to the Northeast, for Central kids atleast, is taking BSL/70/67 or BSL/28/67.

THIS is all compared to..

10 tokens/week= 1 pack
1 pack a week = $10
4 packs a month = $40/month
$40/month x 9 = $360/year in tokens

/rant

Could it be possible that SEPTA could be bringing in a fare system similar to NYCMTA's and possibly purchasing new fareboxes to welcome it in? There could be a reason why all the emilinations and fare hikes.

Bingo! They need someone to soak up the 29 Million in costs for it.
(That is if the State aprroves the budget and SEPTA gets the 101 Million it needs so desparate).

SEPTA nailed it down to the science, they are forcing more and more people to buy transpasses, there's no possible way that many people will carry around nothing but tokens to get from A to B.

Yet another way SEPTA is trying to eliminate cash. They figure if more people use passes, then there will be less moeny in the vaults.
