Do buses really need to go to Erdenheim that much though (especially with the 134 right there)?  Why not just terminate in the loop (for some of those trips) - i think that would be more efficient.

Yes, that's close to the new house my family is moving to. And since my parents drive an 2000 Toyota Camry that is always having issues (brakes, transmission) and an old Pontiac Grand Prix, we may need it.

It not a loop. It a turn around that the 59 has in case of issuses where they may need to turn around. There are 2 of them, the first one is somewhere near Levick ave. i think and the second one is right after cottman ave. It just like the one that 66 has at cottman & frankford where the 66 can turn around and go back to frankford.

first of all: give southern back the 5!

ever since someone had the bright idea to make the 25 go to pier 70, every bus from front to 5th got tossed around. the 50 died( and no one bothered to put the 57 on 5th and 4th street) the 5 could of ran down front and 2nd

2. rt9 2nd-dock (eh?),

The 59 has 2 loops aside from Bells Corner, as follows:

Castor/Hellerman(below Cottman)
Bleigh/Alma(immediately above Cottman)

Everyone here knows the loops on the 66(Leon/Ryan, Gregg Street, City Line).
There is another turnback on the 66(Frankford/Welsh)- via nb on frankford, wb on Stanwood, sb on either Craig or Leon, eb on Welsh. This turnback is in the heart of the Holmesburg section & I personally believe it should be used more often.

The Pennsport/Queen Village/Whitman part of South Phila (with which I am very familiar) has poor transit service today, despite the number of routes that have been rerouted and extended in that area. When 5 and 50 were replaced with 57 in '92, I thought that was a bad move. Both of them were too long and were delayed usually on their northern ends so the service on the south portions suffered. The "solution" was 57, and it's proven to be not much better (although there is more south-of-Girard weekday peak hour peak direction service than on either 5 or 50).

My idea back then was this:

Extend 57 via 5th and 6th Sts south of Girard to 5th & Snyder.

Divert 5 from 2nd/3rd to Delaware Ave at Christian St and serve Delaware Ave to Oregon Ave, then on Oregon Ave to Whitman Plaza (at the time, Pier 70 and Columbus Commons didn't exist, but it could go to each of them also), with the Packer Marine Terminal runs in the peaks

Extend 12 from its former terminal at 5th & Market via Market and 2nd/3rd to Whitman Plaza, returning via Oregon, 2nd, Snyder, Moyamensing, Washington, Front, Spruce, 3rd, Market to regular route. This would give more even spacing of north/south routes east of 6th St and give folks in this part of town a one-seat ride to Center City, something many other neighborhoods have had for years, in addition to having a more reliable (and less delayed) route with the extension of the shorter (than 5 and 50) 12.

It could still be done today, although 12 would be slightly different with its current routing to 3rd & Pine.

The wandering 7 could also be cut back to a more logical terminal such as Whitman Plaza or Snyder Plaza, or a more direct route to Pier 70 (could be Weccacoe Ave and Snyder Ave to Delaware Ave, removing the Front/Water Sts service).

25 on Delaware Ave is essentially an "express" route through the Center City area and could remain as far as Pier 70. In my limited experience with the route it seems that there isn't very much use south of Pier 70. Having 5 and 25 overlapping on Delaware Ave between Christian St and Pier 70 would give this area a little more service than the 25's half-hour headways.

Putting 64 on Front St instead of Delaware Ave between Tasker St and Washington Ave would serve many more riders and reduce the amount of coverage on Delaware Ave if 5/25 are serving Delaware Ave. This would also eliminate the difficult Delaware Ave/Washington Ave westbound left turn.

The 9 (which runs through the area in which I currently live) would do well to be run to a more logical endpoint than 4th & Walnut. Penns Landing or 2nd & Dock would make sense.

i was looking at the pictures in the multimedia section and i found a little something called the Airport Express.

http://www.philadelphiatransitvehicles.cjb...album=124&pos=8

We should definitely bring that route back(or the bus too)

the 79 should go to Pier 70 as well(at least in peak hours)

The Airport Express bus is no longer needed as it was replaced by the R1 Airport Line train in 1985.
