I should post this in daily sightings log, but since I was away for the holiday and this was 6 days ago, this should be okay. So on thursday night (9:30 P.M.) I was walking by Rittenhouse Sq. watching the buses go by, when I see something I'd thought I'd NEVER see again: A Neoplan at night... In Center City... On A Midvale Route! Being the bus nerd I am, I RAN for that bus. Turns out 3490 was covering route 9 (3768 Block) as a replacement for 5735, which was taken out of service for mechanincal problems. The operator told me that Control sent him to Frankford to recieve a replacement bus and that he could pick any he wanted. Being a Neoplan lover (a lot of the Old heads are), he wheeled out 3490. Overall, with the traffic and night construction, this bus still ran like a horse! It took some time with Merge @ The Schuykill and Vine, but seriously, this bus would still dust any NABI on the road. I ended up riding up to Wissahickon TC, where I bid farewell to my old, reliable chariot. The operator would keep his bus for the rest of the run, leaving someone at Midvale District to take 3490 back to Frankford at the end of the night. Funny part was, I always wanted one more trip on 76 with a Neoplan... Thanks G! |

Yeah, I would've done the same thing! Wow, I could only dream of the day when I would be able to ride a Neoplan on a non-Frankford route...heck soon I would only be able to dream of a ride on a Neoplan. 3490 was a good bus the last time i rode it. I don't get why people go on as if the NABIs are really slow....I ride them everyday and a good few of them move decently (not fast like a 5600C, but decently). Maybe it's because I ride out of Frontier . BTW, 3490 is ex-Frontier, although I guess after these years we can't really claim rights to it so much anymore.
Hopefully this wasn't your last Neo ride...if it turns out to be, though, at least it was a great one! |

You lucky dog. I rode a Neo one time on the 15. It was replacement at Richmond and Westmoreland for a bad Callowhill NABI. Now I have to ride then on Frankford routes. I'll probably get one on Friday on the 75. By next summer, they will be gone, the trackless will replace therm. |
