We will have a large group on the last day. Many pictures will be taken and many tears will be shed. I love those buses.

They are best buses (lately) that SEPTA has had. The New Flyers will not hold up as long. The Neo's I ride are from 1989, they are good old buses.

The problem is....what would be the last day, and would we know what the last day is before it's too late?

I rode 5659 and another overhauled 5600 on Friday...the DD50 5600s are now the minority...

The Neo's I ride are from 1989, they are good old buses.

The 8800s(8851-8860,8865-8875) that were assigned to Frontier(delivered to Victory in early 1985, however,8851-8860 & 8870-8875 were moved to Frontier in early 1990 with the advent of the 124/125, 8860, 8865-8869 came to Frontier later on), were some of the best Neos that SEPTA ever had. These buses were speed demons, tanks in their divine right & were "smooth riders" for "smooth operators".

8851 bit the dust sometime in 1996(undercarriaige). 8852 lasted until December 2001.

8853-8854 were moved to Midvale in 1999 but rarely ran(2000-scrap).

8855-8856 made a run to Southern(8852,8855-8856 were moved from Frontier in 1997 to Allegheny for the 9,27 & 48 during the holiday season of that year- they were moved back to Frontier in early 1998, then moved to Comly immediately after the 40 day transit strike, en route to Southern).

8857,8858,8859 & 8875 were moved BACK to Victory in the fall of 1997 & stayed there until retirement.

8860,8865-8874 ran half of the table up at Frontier depot in the 1990s.

8861,8862, 8863,8864 never left Victory depot(except for occasional bus swappings lasting no more than a couple of weeks).

The majority of 8851-8875 made it into the fall of 2001. Many fo these units lasted (8852,8857-8875) lasted for 16 years.

Yet somehow whenever I want to ride a Cummins NF, I always get a Nabi or DD50 NF.

At Midvale, a ride on a DD50 5600 is getting harder to get. On weekends, they'll more than likely appear on the 23, 39 & 47 more often than on most Midvale routes.

23 & 47- needs everything.
39 & 47- stop & go nature of routes

From my friend, a trackless operator:

The new fleet of ETB's will be here mid to late February. Then training will begin, the chief instructor, the lower instructors, the supervisors and control center people, them in mid-March operator training will begin. The coaches will be stored inside the Frankford district bays. They will be driven around the district on diesel power and when they leave the property the poles will go up. The flexabilty of this coach will be tested and approved. SEPTA was generally happy with the first coach #800 and expect good results from the fleet. The only major change was the change of the APU from a diesel-generator to a straight diesel motor.

The 40 Ft. Neo's will be around until at least June 2008. There are plenty of rides left on them.

I am very excited about this project and hope for success.
