Will everyone in the PTV group be invited?

Of course! It's going to take a lot of digging to see when the last trip is next spring. I'll keep asking my Frankford contacts.

I say lets fill the bus with a standing, swinging load!

I wonder if it would be possible to charter it. Too bad there aren't any bus advocacy/fan groups that can do that...

I'd charter 2 or 3 - 3372, 3430 and 3395...wonderful! :)

If you can get enough people involved we may have the ability to do a charter. We'd probably be limited to one or two buses though due to SEPTA's sky high charter rates that are only getting higher. Friends of Philly Trolleys might sponser a Neo charter with proceeds going to benefit the restoration of 2168 and other Philadelphia PCCs at Baltimore Streetcar Mueseum and other places. The only thing is the cost per person would start at $50 probably higher. That is what really sucks if you ask me.

BTW 75 2102 started the day with 3484. On the fourth trip he broke down at Wyoming Circle (Castor and Wyoming) with no air pressure. He called in asking for the blocker to send out a Neoplan for him to finish his runs but instead they sent out one of those mechanics in a maintenance vehicle. The truck built up the air pressure and the driver took it back up Castor to Pratt back to the depot. When he got to Castor and Pratt the pressure was lost again. So the truck built it back up. When he got closer to the depot he lost pressure again but said "screw it" and coasted down the hill and into the back of the depot (2 Bay). He quickly ran and took 3429 to do his last trip. He said he should have known he was going to break down because the #1 door up front wasn't closing due to lack of pressure. He ended up missing the 10:15 trip. While he was waiting for someone to show up to answer his distress call, 3418 went by him on the 89. The driver told him "I break down and this is the junk Frankford gives me" (this was a female driver). My friendly 75 driver told me she should be lucky to have been able to get a bus since she broke down on her first trip of the day (he believes she had an Eldorado) and Frankford gave her 3418 to finish her run at about 6:30 in the morning. At that time all the buses in the depot are already blocked and assigned with not very many at all to spare. Thus anyone who breaks down is lucky to get a replacement at that time of day.

All of the SEPTA buses carry the VEEDER-ROOT hubodometer except the ElDorado's which carry a STEMCO hubodometer.

4506 was spotted with a VEEDER-ROOT hubodometer, & i had just noticed that 2 days ago when I had took a picture of an ElDorado a few weeks back

Joe, thanks for the story on 3484. It saves me from trying to tell it.
The nest day, Friday, the same driver & block had 3395. No body heat, and bad center doors . The number one (front) door hinge broke but that was repaired. He swapped later for 3420 which ran great, nice and toasty warm.

Very little is being done to keep the Neo's running, and they need them until at least next June, 2008. The trackless coach drivers who have operated trackless before will get 3 days training , new drivers who are fresh and never drove a trackless will get 5 days. All supervisor's , instructor's and control center people will be given a chance to familiarize themselves with the new coaches. It's possible two training coaches may be out at the same time, one for management , and one for the operators.

Sources have told me that a Vault Puller went to Callowhill for some overtime and was found to be intoxicated on his job. He was fired but the cut him a deal with early retirement and pension.

While riding the 75 I saw a burnt up El Dorado on the back of a tow truck. I think it caught fire on the 89. I do not have the bus number. That bus will probably be scrapped
by Berridge shops. The entire front was burned.

Joe, this is especially true with the Midvale operators on the North Philly routes(C,2,23,32,39,47,57,61 & 89). If a bus goes down on any of these routes(notably the C, 23 & 47), an 8(23 & 47) minute street will turn into a 25 minute street fast(the C is already down to a 15 minute street as it is from Allegheny Avenue to 15th & Market).

On the C,23 & 47, the Southern operators will "have to start doing their homework" if a Midvale bus breaks down.

5701 and 5704 were spotted unoverhauled yesterday. 5697 is unoverhauled. All three buses still have DD50 engines.

We apparently received some bad information which said those buses were overhauled, for the time to be, those buses as well as the other buses mention from the source has been removed, until someone verifies they are indeed overhauled...

5701, 5704 and 5697 were overhauled...

The current overhaul list is as it stands is this:

Midvale 5613, 5617-5619, 5623, 5628, 5630, 5631, 5633-5635, 5637, 5638, 5640, 5641, 5643, 5656, 5668-5670, 5675, 5680-5683, 5687-5689, 5691-5694, 5696, 5702, 5705, 5707-5708, 5711

Victory 5648, 5650*, 5651, 5652, 5654, 5655

Frontier 5657, 5659-5663

Just a Word to the posters here, all 56xx will get overhauled will received the Cummins engine. There are no 56xx that was overhaul without this engine, the only possible case for an 56xx to come out as newly repainted is the fact it has just been repainted (not overhaul), but that does not mean it has been overhauled, but it will shortly undergo an overhaul. Please make sure that these units sport an Cummins engine, as well as LED lights on the side by the doors (which is one of the ways I can tell from an Overhaul and non overhaul)
