I will be moving to Springfield Township soon. I already go to the high school. There are no bus routes, except the L, which is kinda far away at Erdenheim. Is there anyway for me to get Septa to consider a bus route down Paper Mill Rd? It does have a lot of traffic. They could even use Eldorado's for the route, which could go from Chestnut Hill to, um, somewhere. It would go right by the new house which is on a street of of Paper Mill Rd, by the Erdenheim L. |

I'm not sure how to "get" SEPTA to make a new bus route, but you may be able to request a new route just by emailing them. Maybe your community leaders can help as well. However, can't the 94/134 help in some way? I'm not sure if SEPTA would create a new route that runs so close to those two. Besides, although there is a lot of traffic, is there a lot of population density and traffic generators (shopping centers, office/industrial complexes, etc.)? FYI, I'm not sure where you are moving from, but sometimes you really have to be creative when using transit in the suburbs. Although I'm now fortunate to have both 90 and limited 98 service on the main road outside of my neighborhood (5 min walk), I'm used to walking from the L and 27, which is a 25 to 30 min walk. Before the 98 returned to G-town pike, I had a 15 minute walk to that bus stop (and on Sundays and evenings before the old 95 Penn Square bus had additional service, this was the closest stop for me). Sometimes to go to work when I miss my usual 90, I take a 22 min walk to the 98 stop for my 2nd bus to work (the bus would actually have passed the aforementioned stop by that time, and the Blue Bell routing buys me a lot of time) The point is, when taking transit out in the Philly burbs that is not Delaware County, "kinda far away" is more like the hour walk I would have from Norristown if all the buses are done for the day and the hack cabs aren't around (taxi service is ridiculous up here). Maybe SEPTA can help you figure out stops that may be close to you? |

Well, if you were living there circa 1977, you may have had an option of using the old "S" bus [now 18] that ran to Paper Mill Glen during rush hours. Back then if SEPTA was adventurous they could have extended the bus to Chestnut Hill by running the bus down Paper Mill Rd and Bethlehem Pk to the CH loop, but that idea was never consdidered. The Paper Mill Glen extension was eventually used as a glorified school route for LaSalle HS students. That extension never generated enough ridership so when the S was changed to the 18, that Paper Mill Glen extension was dropped without a peep from anyone. Then in the 90's when the 18 terminal was relocated from Willow Grove Ave to Cedarbrook Mall, there was more noise from the residents of the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery than the residents in the area, especially since the 77 covered that portion of the route adequately. Be grateful you have the Erdenheim branch of the L in that area. If SEPTA had their druthers, that branch would be a goner, especially with the 94/134 in the area, and now that the Plymouth Mall branch has 24/7 service. |

I am moving from Mt. Airy. I am close to Cedarbrook plaza, in fact I can see it from my room. I will email Sepat today and see what they say. |

Would it make sense to re-route the 77 onto Paper Mill Road, taking it off Willow Grove Avenue? Or adjust the headways to every 90 minutes on the route on weekdays with alternating trips running down Paper Mill Road? |

That would be cool, but there is still a lot of traffic going the other way down paper mill rd. |

Alternating trips with 90 min headways equals a bus every 3 hrs? Besides, you lose the opportunity of G-town Ave ridership. |

To resolve that, adjust the base service on the 77 to every 45 minutes & add 1 or 2 buses into the schedule(if that is possible). Or perhaps give some of the weekday service on the 77 to Comly to cross route it with route 70 trips(years ago, SEPTA offered service on the Y(70) Between Cottman/Rising Sun & Cottman/Boulevard(or Frankford), in addition to Torresdale/Cottman& Delaware Avenue & Ardendel Avenue. Or they could extend the 77 to Cottman/Frankford, making base service between Frankford & Rising Sun along Cottman Avenue. |

Dear Mr. Stewart, Thank you for contacting us. We will forward your request to the Service Planning Department. Service Planning follows a set process when considering routing changes. The Service Standards and Process can be found in the "SEPTA Reports" section of our website. To view, go to: http://www.septa.org/inside/reports.html and "click" on "Service Standards and Process".
