#3414 was in the new livery after bein retrofitted. I rode it twice before it was retired. It ran pretty wel. It seemed to be a rather quiet bus for a Neoplan Darryl Bulls.
I probly drove 3414 more than anyone. I first drove it as a brand new bus in 1989at Comly. was a prototype then also, as i remember it ran on a different fuel and said 'Clean diesel ' on back of it. Then it disapeared for a few years[back at Neo in colorado???} came back in slightly different form in 92. Then BIG Conversion [NABI ENGINE] in 1994. it had special engine monitoring gagues in it also. Was assigned to my late for a few years. Engine was smooth under hard acelleration, but at a traffic light it shook so bad ya woulda thought every nut&bolt was coming out of it. Passengers didnt know what to think as the bus sounded so different from others. I really miss 3414 yes it was a legend!!!

All I remember about riding this bus was sitting in the back row seat and seeing a huge gap between the back row of seats and the red wall.

I remember riding it on the 23 and thinking that same thing, except I was in 7th or 8th grade.

Before high school, I rode a bus twice. I'm pretty sure they were NABIs, though.

I still remember the first time I saw that 3414. It was in the evening, and my mom and I were waiting for the bus back home. We heard the familiar DD50 engine that powered the then brand new NABIs coming up on another street (we couldn't see the actual bus). The bus came closer and closer, and we were surprised to see a NEOPLAN crossing the intersection! We looked at each other, completely confused by the Neoplan driving away with a "NABI" engine.

Quite a few years later, I managed to ride 3414 in it's later years...exactly once on the 29. Busfanning at it's best: I was right behind it on the 7 bus, going towards Pier 70. We pulled into Pier 70, but apparently 3414 wasn't going to layover, and it went back out on the 29.

No worries - I waited for the next 29, rode up the street several blocks, and then walked along the street, passing up Neo after Neo (wow, those were the days) until 3414 pulled up, heading back to Pier 70.

The cool thing was that was the same day I got to ride the Orion VII hybrid demo on a short stint on the 37. While I was on 3414, while looking out the window down on of the streets, I saw the tail end of an Orion VII heading westbound. So I chased that bus too, but waited quite a while for it's return. I got to see a Neo push a NABI through an intersection while waiting, which was pretty amusing ("Neo Power").

Ah, those were the days :)

Ridden on 3414 on several occasions on the Route G. It sounded like a mix of a NABI/Artic/56xx(flyer). This bus has some seriously transmission torque converter issues as we were only going 8 MPH up the hills. Yet once this bus gets to level terrain it accelerate pretty good (Nabish).

It was indeed a very interesting bus with Detroit Diesel's Pro driver device in the front.

A 5600? Really? I agree that it had the NABI/artic sound...and then came to a stop with the trademark Neo-squeal - what an experience! I wish I had the recording equipment I have now back then so I could've recorded the engine. Alas, all I had to work with was a camera that recorded video without sound...

It did its purpose well on the 29, though.
